Most likely I'm not the only one being fascinated by planes, let alone old ones, from the second world war or even older. Obviously when it comes to flying, I prefer the latest ones, but when it comes to photographing, these oldies are goldies. I must admit, this is the only old plane I could get close to, the rest I've only seen in movies.

@derangedvisions has a Black and White photo contest this week.

You really need to make sure that the black and white adds to the photo and there is purpose behind it. Black and white images can be full of emotion because it removes the colorful distractions. It can also give your photos a timeless feel. So have fun with the theme this week. source

Portraits and life photos would be better but as I don't photograph people for privacy reasons, I think these plane photos would fit this week.

This plane can be found in Mediaș, in the courtyard of a youth center. It's been there for decades as far as I know and kids love it. Just think about it, how many kids have the chance to play on a real plane, even if it's old? Not many.

It's a very old piece, but I can't say it for sure if it's from the war. There has been an aviation school in the city, which was closed in 2001 or so. My guess is that this plane is from the aviation school and ended up there after it was not needed anymore. Basically it doesn't matter. What it matter is what represents and that is the past.

Every time I was passing by was thinking about how life must have been for those pilots flying this plane, back in the day, when these were top level airplanes. Imagine the level of safety pilots had back then, compared to what they have today.

Today I decided to make the photos black and white as when these planes were in use, photography was also black and white as colors only came after. War movies were also black and white so I thought it would be appropriate.

The last few photos are important for me as it reminds me of those war planes. I was always looking at those dots in the movies and was thinking you don't see those anymore as technology has evolved a lot and screws and binding elements are not easily visible anymore.

Most likely the locals can't really appreciate it as I can, because it's there for them all the time and they can only see the wreckage in it. I see the past in it and what it represented once. I'm not sure what a good of a job I did with the black and white filter, but it's way better than the colored, original version.

That is awesome how the plane is just chillin out in a field next to homes and stuff. I bet the kids have a lot of fun playing on it.

Indeed it is. You don't see a plane like this just laying around, do you? Would have been cool to get closer to the cockpit and take some photos but did not want to climb on it as don't know in what shape it is. I was happy the gate was open and I could take some photos.

Kids indeed must be thrilled. It's a cool toy :)

Oh!... It's a beautiful Mig-15!... So much history in this agile and elegant mid 20th century aircraft!.... Excellent photos, I loved where the rivet details appear on the airframe... thanks for sharing!

Wow, you were actually able to identify the plane. Thank you! I don't know much about them.

I'm glad you like the photos :)

It's very possible these were fighting in the war.
