Visiting cenotes for the first time

Cenotes are all around Yucatán and since we were visiting specifically that area of Mexico we knew we had to explore some cenotes.

The first cenote we visited was the Cenote Azul.

This was the first cenote I’d ever seen so it was very impressive for me.

Everything was beautiful and the water was crystal clear so you could see all of the fish.

The next cenote we visited was also beautiful, however there was too many people.

After reading about cenotes we learned that the cenotes that we’re farthest away from the coast were supposedly the best. So of course we had to see if this was true.

We went to Coba a village where there were 3 cave cenotes. The first was one of meet impressive things I have ever seen in my life. ( I don’t have good photos of it)

This cenote was quite dark so you couldn’t really see the bottom which was pretty scary to me.

Something really cool this cenote had was a stair case from where you could jump, this was also pretty scary but at the same time really fun.

Then we visited two other cave cenotes which were also pretty cool

Something I really like about one of them is that you could see some fossils in the ceiling.

After visiting 5 cenotes I would say that cave cenotes are the best cenotes to visit even if it means you have a long drive. They are totally worth it.

Indeed, I also liked the cenotes a lot. Visited a couple of them in Merida surroundings. Not crowded at all; even in one we were all alone and we could enter only with a small stairs. A little scary when I reconsider, because if our guide would have been leaving and would have been pulling up the ladder , nobody would have found us ever again.
In Coba you haven't been visiting the Maya site?

I have been in Mexico near Yucatan many years ago with my wife and we were able to swim in the cenotes. It was so beautiful and natural. Thank you for sharing your experience.
