The artist OLAMIDE nicknamed “BADDO” is a Nigerian artist in the industry. His Real name is OLAMIDE GBENGA ADEDEJI. He Is a well recognized music artist both home and abroad. Not to forget the fact that I’ve been a true follower of the rapper turned singer over time since his early days in the music industry.
The rapper has a way of relating to his listeners with his deep thinking and use of words that are easily relatable to deep thinkers that can comprehend word plays easily.

The track “TRIUMPHANT” talks about his story in recent years about how he lost his parents and his mother recently, may her soul Rest In Peace. The song also featured a fast rising artist Bella shmurdda who is a fast rising mega superstar. He also talked about his grass to grace story. He talked about how people wrote him off when he started and how no one gave him the platform he deserved even with his talent.

Let me use this medium to explain the real meaning of the word triumphant.. it simply means a great victory or achievement.. in this sense the song is talking about both their victories towards the obstacles they faced in the music industry in Bella’s case it was the obstacle of being welcomed in the music industry even with all the rejections.

Man I triumphant
And I've been through a lot
Many people wrote me off
But God no gree, Kan le dayon man.

In Olamide case it was how he dealt with the depression of losing his parents when he started making it very big in the industry.

But odun mi gan when I just start to hammer
Daddy fi oshan le, Mummy ku omo mo fe mad
How could it be now, I was waiting for an answer
Ta mo fe da ku won le
Gbagbe gbogbo suffer ti ati suffer
Plenty dust, Dust to sand
Good things never last I understand
Mo dye irun mi yellow, Mo tun dye e si green
People think say na swag but I was loosing my mind.

Also In the lyrics he made reference to a point where he was making different hairstyle tints of different colours (brown and green) and his fans were jumping on it like it was a trend, but in this track he made us understand that it was as a result of him losing his mind at that point after losing his parents.. that he started doing different things and he always used liquor to and cigarettes to console himself whenever he was having a bad day regarding those horrible experiences.

Changing the narrative for the ghetto youth
O le wa lati ghetto ko ni sense
Ko de wa classy.

Shortly after that rough period he began to reclaim his sanity back and he started to prove people wrong in the industry who thought he could never make a comeback. Hence he also talked about how you can come from a ghetto and still make it out strong and live a classy and comfortable lifestyle like him. He also stated that he has been in the industry since late 2010 and up till date he remains one of the most relevant musicians in the industry.. dropping hits year after year while recording different albums yearly.. indeed he has been “triumphant”

I love this song because it ministers to me in a way that it touches my heart.. I usually enjoy lyrics of a song that tells you about a story, a music that is like a journey that you follow from start to finish to get the whole idea of the track. It started with him talking about the challenges he was facing and how he lost his parents at a time he needed them to reap the fruit of their labour. Then he ended it with how he later overcame those hurdles and forged a greater path for himself that has skyrocketed him to a place of TRIUMPH. Also please note that the original song is in a native language (Yoruba) that was why I help but interpret in my post. So as not to stress you all my lovely readers I had to interpret most of the lines in English as I was writing.

The main motivation behind why I chose to write about this exact song is because not everyone can relate to his story due to the fact that most of us have never lost someone very close to one self. Years ago I almost lost my mum and I knew how it felt to be in such situation. The feeling of having to lose someone that birthed you and made many sacrifices to bring you to adulthood. For him to get through that phase and at same time trying to stay relevant in the music industry was really a TRIUMPH.

Thank you all for taking your time to read this. God bless!
