Going out in a Fit of Sunset

IMG_1083.JPG

It was the perfect day for a perfect day.The sun was shining, the warmth of it hugging my shoulders, the longing for her stronger than ever. Who could resist getting out into the sun an shine of the day? The exception perhaps, would be the popping with color tulips as 88F (31C) met us halfway through the day. It was the last day the tulip farm would be open, and a few were struggling to keep their heads up. Still, I could breathe in that color that was saturated to the max, knowing it would have to last me another year.

IMG_0763.JPG

They charge you $19.00 for adults, $14.00 for children under 17. I think the fee is a little expensive, but they soften the blow by giving you five stems of your choice. Your time is unlimited and there is entertainment to entice you to stay longer than you intended. They even have a BBQ pit set up, with brisket, pork ribs and chicken. They have suddenly made it into a daytrip. The last day brought out the shutterbugs, people dresse in their finest. (Not above! They are hanging casual!) Many of the young children were sitting amoung the tulips, surrounded by smiles. Some of the best pictures were taken that day. I don't think anybody went home disappointed. If they didn't like the way the photo came out, you could see them looking around for a volunteer to make their day. Everybody was swapping phones and cameras. Working together, playing together, just the way life should be.

IMG_1015.JPG

The sun was shining, the brilliance bathing in its warmth, illuminating the petals on the stem. I don't think there is any other way of explaining it, intoxicating to have the beauty, along with the scent touch your soul.

Le sigh.

IMG_47522.JPG

There is a giant woodens shoe down at the end of this row. I would be a liar if I said I didn't try it on. Each time I go. Have you ever visited a flower farm or gardens? What kind of flowers were they?

I have to say that I think the bright orange and bright yellow are some of my favorite bulbs that I pulled up to take home The reds were brilliant and the white were absolutely striking against the deep purple. Do you have a favorite color or are they equally as beautiful?

IMG_0750.JPG

It is barely evident, but yet it is. The tinges of their demise playing at the tips. because of the staggered planting that they do, right next to it, a new one is just showing off. I have made my way through fifty of the one hundred acres, fully embracing my last moments with them, until next year.

IMG_4869.JPG

The tulip farm is getting ready to close. Some of us wore wooden shoes, it's time to give them back for the last time this year. It is hard to kiss it all goodbye, the silver lining to it all is in the next few days, they will be planting one hundred acres of sunflower seeds. Later this summer, we will come back!

IMG_0776.JPG

There is #alwaysaflower somewhere in my post. Who am I to resist? Always a flower to color my world.

IMG_0346.JPG

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

IMG_0882.JPG

They had one last sunset time. You cannot see the dots of flowers unless you look really hard. It was magical in every way, to go out in a fit of sunset. And just like that, this show is over. Come back tomorrow and we will do it again! Have a great Tuesday!

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost

Have you ever visited a flower farm or gardens? What kind of flowers were they?

Yes. And it do not even cost me money. There is a rose garden in Szolnok, Hungary. Everyone is free to enter, and it is possible to sit down on benches. There are flower gardens in other sides of the countryside too. To be honest, I have not even heard so far that anyone would charge you a fee for visiting flower gardens.

Do you have a favorite color or are they equally as beautiful?

Every flower is beautiful, but my favorites are probably the blue flowers.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

There are many places that charge for tulip gardens, The Kuekenhoff in Holland is one of the big ones that I can think of. Most gardens/parks don't. This one charges as you can shop for the bulbs here, so it is a business on top of being a place of pleasure. Usually, flower gardens for enjoyment do not offer you the option of taking the specimen home. :)

I love blue flowers also, but, they are not always easy to find in nature. They are available, but, they are one of the most uncommon. Perhaps that is why I love them. :)

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a great day!

@dswigle,

I would imagine the smell would be so heavenly, that you could just lay down... close your eye's, and never leave! (Well... minus bugs biting you, and a bathroom break).

I've never been to an actual "flower farm"... but the Amish Market where we get our flowers, has a lovely greenhouse. As soon as you walk through the door, it's like being teleported to another world (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe vibes... yes?). Not the same, I'm sure, as the awesomesauce of a flower farm... but still a positive experience.

To choose a favorite color, would be akin to choosing a favorite way to eat kettle corn, to me... I do tend to like the more vivid colors, but sometimes, it's the overall look of some flowers, more than just their color... ya know?

As always, behind on everything lol... my other half started a job so I'm helping (trying!) to keep the ship afloat, until she gets home from work... big shoes to fill! Lovely post my friend... appreciate your posting in my Community...

We have Mennonite farms right here, but the Amish farms are about an hour away. Absolute heaven and they have a little bakery and bake every single day, sending out smoke signals in the way of aroma. I want to live there. All the good smells and no calories. Win/win!

Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe Yes! :)

Kettle Corn... straight down the gullet. Is there any other option? I love kettle corn and look forward to the county fairs to keep me in supply. You cannot just eat one bag. EVER. I was drawn to the more vivid, but, yes, the overall look. I loved one and it smelled heavenly, but, my brain couldn't reconcile the fact that it looked like a rose. A rose. It even smelled like one. I bought one of the bulbs anyway. You know, just in case I changed my mind.

I am not sure you could be any more behind than I am. I am still finishing up #MarketFriday. :( I feel bad being that behind, but, I should finish today. I was still getting new ones. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words. I know how much effort that takes. Honestly.

Look at you!!

Thank you for all the tokens and the tipu! Appreciate it!

Those fields of Tulips are both so beautiful and so grand such huge fields of them visiting there with the vibrant colors and the aroma of the flowers must have been a thrill for the senses

You ask if we have ever visited a flower farm which reminded me of a visit to daffodil fields in this area somewhere years ago with family

When o finish this comment I am going to look it up online see if I can find where it is and go check it out soon

Thank you! It is such an amazing sight to see flowers as far as your eyes will see. Funny enough, even the white pop! The senses are on heightened alert, who could help it?

I really love the daffodils, they are truly the first sign of spring! I hope you get to see them, I will bet it is just about peak up there. Sooner is better before they fade. I think most of our early spring with dogwoods and flowering trees is just about done. It comes so fast and in the midst of uncertain weather, so the season is usually cut short.

I hope you find it!! Have a great day today. Sounds like that could be an amazing WednesdayWalk!

If it stopped raining now it might be just a wonderful time to go with everything freshly washed. I know it's already noon but if it's not far, it might be worth it. But as you said there's always another day!

They do look a little strange but, they are practical shoes for the garden and other places that may get wet. Nature is really beautiful! You are right about that!

Such a colorful photos and the beauty of the tulips is just stunning.
What a nice day out @dswigle
The entry fee is indeed a bit steep especially for kids.
The wooden shoes/ klompen in Dutch, are cute they remind me of the Netherlands where I lived most of my live.

Thank you! I love the colors of these flowers and tulips are so diverse in their nature, aren't they? It was a perfect day, honestly. I thought the entry fee was high, but the Kuekenhoff was $45.00 to $75.00 and you don't get any flowers, you can only look at them. Still, I think it is high.

They used to call my daughter the Klompen girl as she used to wear her wooden shoes 24/7. I loved the Netherlands when I lived in Europe. It was the very best~ Especially the Kuekenhof!!! I loved the colors!!
Thank you so much for stopping by!!

You are welcome @dswigle 😊

Yes they are, so many colors and forms… just stunning.
I visited one time het Keukenhof, but can’t remember what we payed to get in. I think we combined the entry with a 2,5 hour train ride… you do get discounts then. I lived in the south of the Netherlands between Belgium and Germany in.

It’s great they included some flowers. That is something you don’t get in het Keukenhof.

That’s so cute, your daughter wearing them.
The colors in the north of the Netherlands are amazing during springtime esp. when the tulips flower…

Will have to find those photographs and post it one day. Thank you for inspiring me 😁
Have a lovely day 👋🏻😊

Heck yeah, if there is BBQ then I am there! This looks like a really beautiful place. That price does seem a bit steep for only getting to take five tulips. It isn't like they have plenty to spare or anything! :) It was a beautiful weekend. I was watching my nieces play softball all day on Saturday. Caught myself a bit of a sunburn but it was nice to wear shorts outside again.

Right? BBQ is great! they did an awesome job on it! It really was a nice place and it had so much to see and do for kids. It was a real family day!

Shorts!! Yes! Isn't that nice once again? It is the season for softball once again. It is good to see the kids getting out once again. So many have taken to the indoors!

I think it is on the high side also, but, there was no lack of participation going on!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

Haha! Believe it or not, the wood is waterproof (naturally) so it wouldn't drain. They actually do use the shoes with drilled holes in them at the farm.

I think I would want that big blue shoe in the middle of the field. I could put a tree in it!

I know! It has been a while. I have been so busy, you are uber busy! It is almost ridiculous that I am running this far behind! How do you do it? I cannot keep up with you!

An airport without a mask. What a concept! Where are you off and running too? I hope it is somewhere fun? If not, you will bring the fun, yes?

Did you hear our Veep, Kamela tested positive for Covid-19 just hours ago? I had to insert something newsworthy, although I never watch the news!

You would love the tulip farm! I want to live there it is so beautiful! The wooden shoes (Klompen in Dutch) are such a hoot. We have our own from when we lived over there. Ah... the good old days. I still wear mine in the garden as they are the perfect garden shoes. They are even waterproof, by nature nothing we did.

I am excited to see how your sunflowers do! In July, I will be scouting out the sunflower fields around here! I am tres excited about it and seeing your progress!

Oh, Tootsie Rolls!!!! I almost forgot I loved them! LOL Aren't you so funny! You never forgot ❤️

Safe travels!

It was beautiful, of course! Just what I needed in these last few weeks. I bought the passport which allows me entrance every day (they are open for a month) and you get 5 free stems every day and when they plant their 100 acres of sunflowers, I get in there every day too. It was like a match made in heaven!

I would have loved you to be there, you would have enjoyed it!

Hi Denise!! I can see the dots of the tulips in the sunset shot 😍🌷 I have never been to a tulip farm. They don't grow here. But I would love to see one someday with all the different colors.

And of course, if I were to visit that one, I wouldn't miss the opportunity to put on a pair of wooden swedes. I remember I had some when I was little, and I loved them.

I look forward to those sunflowers pics in the summer.

It would have been so much fun to have you here! :))

The farm is pretty nice and I love the wooden shoes too. I still have some that I wear. We bought them when we lived over there and still use them in the yard, garden and sometimes the grocery store to see if they will stare at us.

They do. :)

Too bad they don't grow there, but, I will keep you in lot of them!!! Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
