Our Backyard Cucumber Story: Fun Gardening with My Daughter, Teaching Her About Plants and Growing Fresh Vegetables

1.png

Hello, friends! Today I want to share a little story about our backyard garden project that made me and my daughter very happy.

A few weeks ago, I decided to plant cucumber in our backyard. Cucumber is one of my daughter’s favorite vegetables, so I thought this would be a perfect bonding activity for us. I bought one pack of cucumber seeds from the store. Instead of planting them directly in the soil. We sued some old pots that were just sitting around the hose. It was a great way to recycle and make use of something that was not being used anymore.

My daughter was very excited when I asked her to help me. His was also my way to keep her away from gadgets an let her enjoy the fresh air outside. Together, we placed the seeds into the soil and watered them gently. She had so much fun getting her hands a little dirty.

After just five days, we were surprise and happy to see small green sprouts coming out of the soil. My daughter was so proud! Every morning, she would run outside to check on the plants and water them carefully. Seeing her smile made me realize how important it is to involve kids in simple activities like gardening.

After one week, the seedlings were bigger and looked healthy. Normally. This is the time when you can transplant the, into the ground but I decided to wait a little longer. I wanted to make sure that the plants were strong enough to survive and grow well in the garden.

One of the main reasons I chose to plant cucumber is because my mother-in-law always buys them from the store, and recently, they have become very expensive. I thought it would be a great idea to grow our own so she can enjoy fresh cucumbers anytime she wants. This way I can also save money and give her something straight from our backyard. I am really hoping that these plants will grow well so that I can share them with her.

Cucumbers are full of water, which helps keep the body hydrated. They are also good for the skin, digestion and weight management. Plus, they taste so fresh and crunchy especially during hot season, and this is best for my mother-in-law as she has more maintenance for her high sugar condition.

Gardening does not have to be difficult. You can start with simple vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes and even herbs. All you need is a small space, some soil, water and a little patience and hard work. The best part is spending quality tike with family while waiting for the plants to grow. The bond with our kids in planting any kinds of vegetables and plants are so priceless, they will grow someday who appreciate simple things and nature.

I love how you turned gardening into a bonding moment with your daughter, those little sprouts must have felt like a huge achievement for both of you.

Involving kids in activities like this not only keeps them away from screens but also teaches them patience, care, and the joy of nurturing life.

I’m sure your mother-in-law will appreciate those fresh cucumbers even more because they came from your hands and heart.

Wishing your cucumber plants a healthy growth and a bountiful harvest. 🌿🥒

They look really good ! Getting your daughter to join in is definitely a wonderful idea - when I was growing up we lived in a flat without anywhere to grow vegetables, but my grandparents grew a lot and I learned a huge amount from my grandmother. 😀

I didn't know about cucumber seeds until now, but they look pretty. It's true that we get excited when we see that the seeds have sprouted; it's such a joy to see that everything has turned out well. Cucumbers are a nutrient-rich vegetable and very good for your health. I eat them a lot too. I hope everything goes well and you have a successful harvest. Best regards.
