A Blessed Tomato Harvest as Prices Reached $3 Per Kilo for the First Time

Hello everyone! There is something special about harvest season. It is the time when farmers finally see the result of months of hard work and prayers. Today was one of those days, and I was happy to spend it with my parents as we harvested our tomatoes.

Growing tomatoes is not easy. Before we can enjoy the harvest, we spend many months preparing the land, planting healthy seedlings, watering them every day, removing weeds, and protecting the plants from pests and diseases. Tomatoes are also very sensitive to changes in the weather. Too much rain or too much heat can easily damage the crop. That is why every good harvest feels like a blessing from God.

I truly admire my parents. Even though they already receive a pension and have other passive sources of income, they still choose to farm. My siblings and I often tell them to slow down and simply enjoy life, but they always say they are happiest when working in the field. Farming has been part of their lives for many years, and it keeps them active and gives them a sense of purpose.

Whenever it is harvest time, I make sure to join them. I always joke that I am there because I want my share of the earnings. Haha! But honestly, I’m there because of remitting the earnings of their tower because the tower company or owner send directly to my account and also I enjoy spending time with them.

This season, we are thankful because tomato prices are much better than usual. In our province, tomatoes are now selling for around ₱150 per kilo, which is a big help for many farming families. However, tomato farming is always unpredictable. Sometimes the prices are high, and sometimes they suddenly drop. Farmers never know what tomorrow's market will bring, so we are grateful for every opportunity to earn a little more.

After harvesting, our work was still not finished. Tomatoes must be handled carefully because they damage easily. We sorted them, cleaned them, packed them in cellophane, crates, and sacks, and prepared them for delivery. It was tiring, but seeing everything ready for the market made us proud.

When all the work was done, the boys celebrated with a few bottles of Red Horse while everyone enjoyed talking and laughing after a long day. We plan what is the preparation for my brother's coming wedding, we said let's separate the 10 packs of tomatoes to buy a pig for his occasion. It was a simple celebration, but it reminded me that the greatest harvest is not just the tomatoes we sell. It is the time we spend together as a family and the gratitude we carry in our hearts.
