Crochet Pricing.

#needlework
Hey guys, today's post is going to be a bit different from the rest.
A lot of crocheters would agree with me that things are not the same way they used to be when we started out with this career and honestly it has been a whole lot.
Firstly I’ll use random prices to illustrate. So when I started crocheting I think two years ago prices were at N300 (yes I’m Nigerian). At the time since I was just beginning yh, it felt like a lot till I started settling down with the prices.

I got used to it. Forward till end of the year in 2022 price went up to N450 and that seemed like a reasonable amount so it shook me a little but after a while I got used to it mostly because it didn’t really affect my prices since it was just a little increase.
Almost the end of the year in 2023 prices started skyrocketing weekly and that affected a lot of Nigeria based crocheters. It started at N500 and after a while it went to N600 and a month after it was at N650.

The prices stayed this way till the end of 2023. At that point I personally thought yeah this is going to change a whole lot in business but yeah my clients and I would adjust eventually.

First week of January 2024 the price went up to N700. After two weeks it went to N750. The first week of February I went yarn shopping and the price was at N800 and after a few days I got a call from my client saying the price of yarn has added an extra N100 which means yarn was at N900. This made me disoriented for a while.

I had to call and text my clients that had pending orders from last year or January to let them know the price for the product had increased by 20%, 30% and 50% respectively. Some clients understood and the others made a fuss about it and yelled and canceled their orders which I totally understood but then prices were spiking everywhere in the country it wasn’t just me it was everywhere.

Even day to day goods went up by 100% in the space of two months but yeah after sorting it out with the clients I had to update prices on the catalog more than 4 times in one week because of how bad the prices were. Few days ago I got a call from my supplier and it wasn’t so pleasant. He was saying that prices may or may not go up but he’ll keep me updated. It was a lot to hear but yes I consoled myself and I’ll keep moving.

The reason for the post is just so I can easily vent. As a business person people may not understand they may call it minor increases in prices but if you are calculating as tho you are buying in bulk you’ll understand that it is a very huge change in 2024.
Anyways I’m happy I could make this post and let it out of my chest. And thank you guys for your constant support too

Hello friend. That same thing happened here in Venezuela, prices were skyrocketing every day. Everything was progressively increasing to the point of not being able to give a budget in our local currency but in dollars, it was the only solution we found.
Those threads look very nice, they look like stamens.

I used but a ball of yarn for 1.50pesewas but now it’s 5cedis
Honestly I don’t know what could possibly have affected the yarn prices so much
