ASEAN Hive Challenge "B" #79 🤒 Traditional Cures For The Common Colds ☕ My Traditional And Natural Home Remedies Whenever I'm Under The Weather

Good day Hivers! I hope that everyone is in good health.

I would like to share with you my simple traditional and natural health remedies right from my pantry.

Stuffy noses are once again prevalent at this time of year. Don't allow a common cold to get the best of you. You don't have to put up with feeling crappy for days or weeks: knowing how to get rid of a cold fast can cut your illness in half.

Although a cold rarely causes harm, it can be extremely uncomfortable.

  • Throughout history, ginger has been utilised for medical purposes and adds a pleasant warming flavour to hot beverages. Because of its active ingredients, including gingerols, it is effective in treating a wide range of conditions, from nausea to common colds, fever, and sore throat.

I keep GINGER in my kitchen because I use it for cooking and, most importantly, it is an antidote. Every morning after gargling, I sip warm water with GINGER and a drop of LEMON or CALAMANSI. It has a soothing impact on me after drinking it, and it keeps me alive throughout the day. I've noticed that I don't easily get colds.

Note: Gingerols is the major pungent compound present in the rhizomes of ginger.

  • It can be difficult to get out of bed in the morning if you have pains and sniffles, but a hot shower will help you feel better. Place extra pillows under your head to ease sinus pressure and help you breathe more easily. Sleeping flat all night makes you feel congested.

Try hanging EUCALYPTUS or OREGANO while having a shower. When it is hung in the shower, it may aid with congestion and stress relief because of the soothing effect. It works by killing the virus with its antiviral activity. The aromas of these plants help soothe your nerves and provide a sense of relaxation. It works on me.

  • When you think of how to treat a cold quickly, WATER is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. However, hydration is critical when combating an illness since a low-grade fever increases the quantity of fluids that evaporate from the body, placing you at risk of dehydration.

Drinking enough fluids helps my body clear out mucus that builds up in my nose and throat. I make it a point to hydrate myself when I get colds.

  • HOMEMADE VEGGIE SOUP, CHOWDER WITH EGG/S, or CHICKEN SOUP. According to health experts, eggs may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you're feeling under the weather, but they may be one of the healthiest foods for a cold. They're high in protein, which is essential in the fight against any ailment. To relieve cold symptoms rapidly, consume hot soup or chowder, broth, and stew. You might make homemade veggie soup, chowder with egg, or chicken soup. Chicken soup, which is high in zinc, has long been used as a home cure for colds. The nutrients present will improve your energy and hydrate you.

A bowl of chicken soup or a chowder with eggs works for me. The vapours from the soup decrease the mucus and assist it flow out of my nose after eating a bowl of soup or chowder.

  • Thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial qualities, HONEY strengthens the immune system.

To reap the rewards, I simply add 1 to 2 tablespoons to a cup of warm water, lemon water calamansi ginger juice, or my favourite tea.

  • Eat HEALTHY FOODS when suffering from the common cold, it is helpful to maintain a balanced diet. Eating lightly and eliminating gluten, sugar, and dairy can provide your immune system with the energy it requires to restore your body. Fresh fruits and vegetables, sugar-free drinks, and soups or chowders are the healthiest foods for folks who have a cold. This diet may also help to minimise pulmonary inflammation.

I force myself to eat whenever I have colds to regain my strength. Being unwell has NO ROOM for me as I have two people under my care, my partially blind mother and my physically and intellectually challenged son

  • Lastly, get enough sleep. Without a doubt, one of the best remedies for the common cold is REST. This can entail taking the day off work to get a massage. Having a common cold is essentially the best justification for doing nothing without feeling guilty. The immune system can amass the body's energy while resting to mend and reinforce. Furthermore, people who get enough sleep while suffering from a cold typically recover quickly.

I see to it that I have enough bedtime at all times in order not to get sick.

How about you, what are your natural remedies when you are under the weather, especially with common colds?

This is so informative and helpful. I usually drink or make oregano juice with honey when we have colds and cough. It works very well to us especially to my son.

Ginger is also a great help. Thanks for sharing this.

I like the aroma of oregano while it hangs in the shower while taking a quick bath when I am under the weather but I cannot drink the oregano juice because I am allergic to some properties when it is concocted into a juice. I make myself ginger tea with honey and calamansi instead. It works for me. Thanks for swinging by. 💞

Do you put ginger into hot water? Or just plain tap water.

Warm water for my tea with honey and calamansi. Our family physician told me not to put honey if I will be using HOT water as it eliminates the efficacy of honey.

Same here sis. I go for herbs first such as this instead of taking the synthetic drugs right away. Life in the province is a lot simpler than that of the city life. They're now manufactured by pharmaceuticals because of the positive feedbacks of its natural healing process.

Natural medicine is the best cure for common illnesses. Thanks to my grandma who introduced the uses of natural antidotes when I was in my younger years. I regard using it instead of over-the-counter drugs or the so-called synthetic medicines unless the symptoms persist and I have to see a medical specialist.

Thanks for fetching around my post. God speed. 💖

We use a lot of the same methods to stay healthy and/or get well. Although I have been vegan for over 20 years, one of my fondest childhood memories was chicken noodle soup when I had a cold. I still to this day make a vegan version of this childhood soup that seems to work just as well, now coconut milk and mushroom-based. Of course one of the most overlooked things is staying hydrated, something so many folks just don't take the time to do.

I would love to find some fresh oregano here in Cambodia, so delicious in Italian food, but I think an even greater tea.

Yes, oregano is best mixed with Italian foods. But I avoided it due to my allergies. Every time I order Italian food from a resto I always ask if they use or mix oregano with it and if so, I will order something else minus the oregano ingredient ☹️
