Musings From the Round File: Words and Thoughts Not Shared

Perhaps it's a somewhat odd thing to say for someone who writes pretty much every day... but I seriously lack discipline, when it comes to writing and other creative endeavors.

Exhibit A: I look at all the half-started and half-finished creative arts projects littering my home office and Mrs. Denmarkguy's and my shared creative space.

Exhibit B: My "Drafts" folder here on PeakD is rapidly approaching 100 articles that have been started but never published.

A few minutes ago, I finished doing a bit of an "archeological dig" on said Drafts folder... and I suppose it offers a bit of insight into what I often think but seldom actually end up sharing with the world.

Clearly, I have a "thing" about Universal Basic Income (UBI) in some form or another, as viewed in the light that automation is increasingly taking jobs from actual humans and those jobs will never actually be replaced, in any form. Given that I strongly believe we're going to reach a point where there are more able bodied humans than there is work needing to be done by humans, how are we all going to continue living? Particularly in view of the fact that the companies adding automation aren't lowering their prices just because products cost less to make when using robots...

I must also have a "thing" for the frequent idiocy of politics... particularly in the context of allegedly adult men and women acting like schoolyard bullies or spoiled little princes and princesses.

I didn't really have much against Donald Trump, but I had a lot against a certain segment of his more rabid supporters who'd take something he'd said and then twist it into a political pretzel that had pretty much nothing to do with the original intent.

Based on my drafts, in this world I probably have the least tolerance for those who'd rather blow stuff up and punch people in the face than actually trying to understand the deeper why of their desire to "blow stuff up and punch people in the face."

From time to time I have ranted on about "gun nuts" who hide their clearly sociopathic ramblings behind the Second Amendment, sometimes seemingly unaware that there actually are other words before "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Which leads to another thing I occasionally rant on about... the way people will almost rabidly get behind ideologies and movements without actually understanding what it is they so fervently are fighting for.

Changing direction for a moment, I was surprised to see how often I have started to write about one of my interests or hobbies... generally not finishing the piece in the belief that "nobody'd care" about such trivialities.

Last — but certainly not least — are the many contests and challenges I have started with great enthusiasm... only to never complete before some deadline came along and made them irrelevant. Even as I write these words, I am six weeks behind on publishing "nearly finished" posts in a weekly writing challenge I started back in early July. I do intend to complete those and get them out...

I actually enjoy occasionally wading back through the "Drafts" folder... and even feel a certain twisted sense of accomplishment when I can delete a few items that have — for lack of a better term — grown stale.

In the greater scheme of things, ideas come and go. And sometimes I have to put considerable effort into exploring an idea before I come to the realization that the explorations were actually not worthwhile.

One of my Teachers once observed: "Always do your best. And when you KNOW better, DO better!"

I keep writing — swollen "drafts" folder or not — because I keep believing that I will do better...

Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

How about YOU? Do you end up with lots of unfinished drafts... or artwork? Are there "words" you want to say, but after writing it out, it starts sounding lame? Are there things you write, but then decide you are better off NOT sharing? Comments, feedback and other interaction is invited and welcomed! Because — after all — SOCIAL content is about interacting, right? Leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
