HiveBloPoMo Day 8: Your Four Fave Songs for Music Monday!

avatar

We have reached Day EIGHT, of HiveBloPoMo and I'm a little surprised I have stuck to it... already past the point where I typically "blow it off" or "Something happened." Woo-hoo!

You can read more about it here. To be honest, I wasn't sure I was even going to complete a week, let alone a month.

Today's writing prompt is "Write about your 4 fave songs for Music Monday."

Music is my Mind-Altering Substance of Choice...

There's always something playing, around here. Pretty much always have been... pretty much since I was in high school, and discovered that my creativity was much higher while there was music playing.

My musical tastes have always been rather off the beaten track, and your basic pop/rock, top-40 radio type music has almost always bored me to death... and did so even back when I was in high school and college and "fitting in" evidently mattered to people.

I stuck out like a sore thumb.

Going to share YouTube links in this post, and apologize in advance if you come across "Not available in your country" messages.

Early...

The earliest I can remember a particular song becoming a favorite and leaving a long-lasting impression that never went away was with the title track from Al Stewart's 1976 album "Year of the Cat."

The song followed me around for many many years, and often reminds me of people who vanished out of my life, for one reason or another. I don't listen much to "oldies," but it remains a favorite.

The Adult Lyph, Part I...

I mostly remember the years between age 25 and 35-ish as being dark and rather bleak. Whatever "American Dream" I was trying to live, it was severely tarnished and depressing...

One the songs that I so often turned to during those years was this one by The Cure:

Somehow, it just seemed to encapsulate the great number of things and people that didn't happen in my life, at the time. This came out in 1991, on the album "Wish."

The Adult Lyph, Part II...

This next song has always been what I think of as "the Sound of Austin" where I lived for almost 25 years of my life.

There are many amazing guitarists in the world, but I think Eric Johnson may be one of the best (if not THE best) because his sound is so incredibly "clean."

I first heard this being played live while standing outside long defunct City Coliseum on a misty night, loading a truck after an unrelated arts and crafts show where I was helping.

Eric extended that last solo to about five minutes and we all just stopped working and listened.

In many ways, this remains the "signature tune" for that era of my life.

Quite Recently...

These days I listen a lot to what's often called "retro wave" as well as progressive house and some chillstep.

This little gem made me sit up and pay attention, not so very long ago. Don't worry, you've never heard of these people... and that's OK!

I can't tell you exactly what it is about this... but it evokes something; possibly relating to a "someone" from another age, long gone.

And that's about it for now... at least within the parameters of the HiveBloPoMo challenge.

Thanks for stopping by, and having a listen, even!

I'll toss in four songs you have probably never heard before.

I'm pretty sure I've shared this song before on Steemit/HIVE, but it has stuck with me since the album found its way into my hands well over 20 years ago.

I also listen to a lot of bluegrass, old-time, and folk music. Ricky Skaggs has been playing for a long time, and this particular song has a nice groove.

The next song I offer in two versions, one metal and the other acoustic. I usually prefer something more toward speed metal, but I dig this tune, both versions.

Finally, I offer a ska anthem. We're overdue for another wave of this upbeat horn-heavy music with punk undertones.

Cool! I miss ska... I listened to a fair bit of Madness, Bad Manners and The Specials when I lived in the UK in the late 70's, and it followed me across the Atlantic when I came here to go to college.

Ricky Skaggs was somewhat of a regular on the airwaves on some Austin stations, and he was a fairly regular guest on Austin City Limits.

Great choices! And luckily for me, all available for my listening pleasure!

Y'know, I'm on day 8, too, but I've gone well off the beaten path and haven't followed the script for the month. Oops.

I've gone off track a few times, as well. Or I've adapted the prompts to fit my needs... oh well.

My biggest "headache" is staying on top of posting according to UTC time... I want that damn badge! 😁

To be honest, I wasn't sure I was even going to complete a week, let alone a month.

Hahaha well, first of all thank you for that chillout Haunted tune by Leo Lauretti & Vault 14. I didn't know it and I enjoyed it. :)

As you know, I am an old rocker who knows, likes and usually share a lot of old swampy Blues with plenty of Dobros, Diddley Bows, Cigar Box Guitars and Slide Guitars. Yeah, that is basically my favorite music/vibe and one that I enjoy the most.

However, I suspect that you also know that my tastes and preferences in music are quite eclectic, varied and multiple. So, to help you out let me share you about four doses of the chillout vitamin that you seem to need to complete the whole month of the HiveBloPoMo challenge without problems and without sweat a single drop. These have been musical injections that I've been giving to myself for a long time and most of all lately. Mainly generous doses in the genre of Liquid Drum & Bass and Chillstep. I suppose that some of these groovy vibe doses you already know or maybe not. But let's try it anyway. In any case, I hope that later you will tell me if they works for you or if they worked for you somehow.

Ok, 'in discovery mode' let's see...

Given your musical tastes, I have the hunch that you probably already knew to Aurora B.Polaris. Hence, I will share with you a couple more that perhaps you didn't know or have heard before. };)

Yeah, it's possible that this one above you also have heard it before even if you didn't know its original author. So, in case you want to put the pedal to the metal and you need way more energy to get your adrenaline pumping up a bit over the top of the chill, let's throw this one here too. LoL

"Bonus Track"

Bonus Track

Well, all in all. It's very probable that you already knew the first four tracks in my eclectic musical selection for you given your splendid good taste for good chillout music. But I'm willing to bet that at least this majestic 'Bonus Track' you hadn't heard it anywhere before until now. Hahahaha

Cheers! :)
