Armenia, attacked by Azerbaijan, asks for help from Russia
Intense bombing by Azerbaijan armed forces on the Armenian cities of Vardenis and Jarmuk and in the Goris region.
The bombings in Armenian territory lasted all night and still continue, the ceasefire proposed by Russia was not accepted.
Pashinyan, the Armenian prime minister, spoke in order with Putin, Macron, Blinken and Lavrov. the phone call to Lavrov is worrying, because it could prelude the Armenian side to the request to trigger Article 4 of the Collective Security Treaty, which binds the member countries of the treaty, first of all Russia, to military intervention in the event of aggression .
The temporal coincidences are significant and concern both countries guaranteeing the territorial integrity of Armenia, namely Russia and Iran.
Russia is committed to Ukraine and is about to dramatically increase its commitment; Iran will formally apply to join as a full member of the Shanghai Treaty Organization, the economic association that brings together China, Russia, India, Pakistan and other Asian countries, at the summit of the association to be held in Samarkand on 15 and 16 September.
Now of course these are coincidences, and we have no evidence that the Azerbaijani attack at this very moment is the opening of the second front so much invoked by Ukraine.
Azerbaijan has Turkey behind it, and could exploit this situation to finally resolve not only the Artsakh issue but also that of the Syunik corridor, taking which would restore its territorial contiguity and, above all, connect Turkey to the Caspian. .
However, if Azerbaijan really wanted to take that piece of Armenian territory it would also have to contend with Iran, which has repeatedly declared that it would not accept any territorial variation in that area, for obvious reasons of its strategic and internal security.
