Greetings, friends of @worldmappin
On my second day in Malaga, my children planned a trip to two places: Ronda and a cozy village called Setenil de las Bodegas. We had high expectations, as all three of them knew Ronda and had told me how impressive the Tajo was, so we set out to spend the day walking around.
One thing I try not to do is look up photos on the internet of places I'm about to visit, as I feel that doing so takes away some of the magic of the first impression. And the truth is that in this case, I was glad I didn't, because both places are impressive. Let me tell you about them.

Ronda belongs to the province of Malaga. By car, the journey takes about an hour and a half on a highway in excellent condition. Upon entering, we found the welcome roundabout, looked for a place to park, and began our walk. As we walked, we encountered details that give the city its personality and correspond to its modern part, offering a long shopping street, an attractive and colorful space.

At the end of the promenade, we cross to the left and arrive at the Tajo, an imposing gorge formed by an earthquake and river erosion, which divides the city into two parts: the modern part and the old town. If this is impressive, even more so is the construction of the bridge that connects the two parts.

Construction of the bridge began in 1751 and was completed forty years later. As you observe the work, you cannot help but recognize the difficulties faced by the workers who made it a reality and the vision of the future of those who conceived it.

The truth is that today it is the city's main tourist attraction. A guided tour to the bottom of the cliff, including abseiling with ropes and harnesses, can cost between €150 and €190 per person.
There is another much cheaper option, €5, to get closer and enjoy other views of the natural monument and the bridge. That was our choice.

After crossing the old town, we arrived at Don Bosco Square. On one side, the path opens up to begin the descent. It is a steep slope, covered with concrete, which does not pose any major danger.

A few meters further down, there is a booth where you pay and continue descending. There, you are given a helmet that you must wear for the rest of the journey. It is a flight of concrete stairs with the mountain carved out on one side, a spectacular view of the bridge on the other, and the river running at the bottom.

At the end of the route, another section is being prepared. Talking to one of the caretakers, she told me that they hoped to have it ready for next year. If I come back to this area, I hope to see it, although my daughter told me that there is another walk on the other side of the bridge that leads to the river and is called “La Casa del Rey Moro” (The House of the Moorish King).

The truth is that I really enjoyed this walk because of everything that nature shows us it is capable of doing, because of human ingenuity, and because of that moment of sharing with my daughter and daughter-in-law. With that, I am satisfied.
We began our return journey, which, although steep, is a short walk of between 20 and 30 minutes to get back to the square where my son and his father-in-law were waiting for us. Neither of them had been tempted to visit El Tajo.

Once at the top, thirsty, we went to get something to drink to refresh ourselves and buy something to eat to take away, as I insisted that I wanted to eat in an open, cool place and they had mentioned a beautiful park nearby.

I think I was thirsty for trees, for a space that would calm me down. The park was perfect, a beautiful oasis amid so much rock and suffocating heat, as it turned out to be the hottest day of the year. We had lunch there and rested for a while before returning to the car, which was a half-hour walk under the harsh sun at two in the afternoon.
When we got to the car, I found out that the trip was continuing. We were going to another nearby town, Setenil de las Bodegas, one of the three so-called white towns that form a beautiful chain visible along the highway.

Setenil, which belongs to the autonomous community of Andalusia in the province of Cadiz, has the peculiarity of being a village embedded in the hillside, and that is literally true. As you can imagine, its streets are narrow and steep, full of their own unique beauty.

One of the first shops we came across was Cueva Alta. Walking through the door is like entering another world. You climb a staircase and at the top there is a space with a solid rock ceiling. It is a cozy place, full of handmade sweets typical of the region. We had something to refresh ourselves, bought a delicious nut cake filled with angel hair candy, some souvenirs, and I enjoyed talking with the friendly owner.

He told me that his family has owned the property for over a hundred years, that his grandfather bought it, then his father managed it, and now he does. He doesn't know what the future holds because his children are in college, but who knows what the future will bring? We ended our conversation feeling rested and with a delicious cup of coffee.
We continued to discover the charms of the village, which can be explored in a short time unless you want to stop and take in all the details, of which there are many.

This is how we ended our visit and began our return to Málaga.
