Windfall is probably not worth your precious time on Netflix

Wake me up when it's over 🥱

I really wanted to like this film. I saw three familiar actors on the poster, all of which have put on good performances in the past. Windfall stars Jason Segal, Lily Collins, and Jesse Plemons. Oh yea, can't forget Omar Leyva who randomly arrives as the fourth and final character in the later part of this slow film. Sadly, this Hitchcockian-style movie just didn't do much for me.

I had a few laughs here and there and enjoyed the setting, but I grew impatient by the constant waiting around and uncertainty if anything important was ever going to happen.

I imagined a super fancy and technologically advanced home when I read that this film would be taking place inside of a tech billionaire's vacation home. Don't get me wrong, the house is very nice, but it did not have any unique tech features. The main draw for the place was the many acres of gorgeous land that are maintained by a staff that the CEO barely knows. Speaking of barely knowing, the characters in this one don't even have names. They are simply Nobody (Segal), Wife (Collins), and CEO (Plemons).

I feel like the main point of this one was to discover if the ultra-wealthy really are as spoiled and arrogant as many of us imagine, or if they have a heart and are willing to give to others. It seems like CEO and his wife are both nice people and don't put up much of a fight against Nobody's burglary attempt. However, after spending far too much time together, this begins to change. You can tell that deep down CEO is pretty wicked and considers himself a god amongst men. The wife thinks of herself as a poor victim despite having literally anything in the world she could ever ask for.

Nobody initially just wanted to see what it was like to step into the shoes of a billionaire for a day while the house was vacant, but he was very surprised when the owners arrived spur of the moment. This turns the film into a hostage situation where everyone is forced to play nice until some money can arrive to get Nobody out of there.

I found all of this to be pretty uninteresting, but don't want to call it a terrible film. I appreciated some of the cinematography and enjoyed the bits where we got to explore the landscape surrounding the vacation home. Too bad none of this was enough to have me recommend this one.

You can check out the trailer below if you are interested at all, but I doubt you are after everything I had to say about Windfall.

I have not watched the trailer but reading the synopsis, seeing the cast includes Jason Segal and Lily Collins, I downloaded and hope to watch it by the weekend! With this review, it's disappointing but I'll watch it all the same. At least, I know what to expect. Hehe. 🙂

I really hope that you like it, but don't get your hopes up too much. It is a decent film at best. Perhaps you will like it more than I did though.

I am thinking about starting the new show Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on HBO Max.

I love basketball and it stars John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss and Jason Segal as Paul Westhead plus Adrien Brody as Pat Riley. I need to see it.

Looks pretty decent. Maybe if you're into any of the plot. That guy (the rich one) seemed pretty annoying. The girl seemed nice. I am still watch the gemstones and luving that stuff. 😂

The rich one was definitely annoying, he was even caught wearing a pair of Yeezy's. The girl seemed nice sure, but she wasn't.

Gemstones is comedy gold! Watch Vice Principals after that, also on HBO. A lot of the same cast and only slightly less funny than Gemstones.
