Everything is easier said than done. Wanting something is easy. Saying something is easy. The challenge and the reward are in the doing.

- Steve Maraboli

Sometimes we find ourselves in the same situation that we promised ourselves that we wouldn't be and each time we continuously say that without putting severe actions to it, they will keep finding themselves in that same situation.

Such predicaments need to be dealt with in an immediate action because they will continue to be mere words till an action is taken to execute it.

The question from @kerrislravenhill in the #ladiesofhive weekly contest prompt gave me a rethink about the budget that I exceeded after the thorough method I ensured to take to avoid excessive spending.

I have been in so many situations that I have promised myself countless times that I wouldn't exceed my budget but the more I promise myself the more I keep exceeding the budget. I started understanding how I react to the needs and wants of certain goods and services and then prioritizing them according to their relevance.

I learned the hard way and maybe this might help you curb yours and stand firm on those decisions you made to stay true to your budget at hand.
Most times, it could be an increase in the aspect of livelihood which includes the high rate of commodity as this would affect the capacity of such budget.

Sometimes we are moved by what we see, feel and imagine then we act immediately about it and make rash decisions that aren't included in the budget.

We refer to those acts as an impulsive reaction, and this is where all hell breaks loose! Once it's unleashed, the rate of spending even on unreasonable items is considered an act of foolishness. If an individual learns how to control and manage the urge to purchase miscellaneous expenses then they have solved one piece of their problem.

The strategies and tactics I apply to stay on track?

PinkShoe-divider.png

It's quite hard to stay on track but one must be intentional about this decision for this to be a success. Below is my one-cent method of staying on track with my budget;

Sever that Impulse
: Yes sis! You heard me right! We are mostly the cause of our mischief. I'm saying this from experience and it hurts me to the core of my existence. It's crucial to curtail those little fancy demons speaking into actions because they are the major factor that would bring one's downfall and exceed budgets. You win when you sever it!!

Increase your unforeseen expenses budget: It might sound weird to you but every individual must prepare for unforeseen circumstances. Of course, no one prays for unfortunate incidents but life always throws challenges in all shades. Increasing the budget for this would enable a slight opportunity for such individuals to take extra spending.

✍︎…c…e…s…c…a…j…o…v…e…✍︎

Track Your Expenses
: It's very significant to have a track record of your expenses no matter how small or big it's. Having a journal specifically for recording and itemizing those various expenses will give you a clue of what's going out of your pocket and an idea to minimize by all means.

Initiate a side hustle: Initiating a side hustle is very important because most times the amount of debit balance is much higher than the rate of credit balance. It's alarming that one earns an average income and gets total bills that exceed monthly income, in this case, how does one prepare and save for future purposes? When there are more than two streams of income, the allocation of funds for expenses won't be a big deal.
I hope this helps you, if you have any questions whatsoever please ask in the comment section.

It might sound weird to you but every individual must prepare for unforeseen circumstances.

Highly recommended, setting aside an Emergency Reserve saved the day for me, twice, but we must decide well ahead of time what kinds of Emergency are included. Home Repair? Car Repair? Hospital fees? or those cute shoes on Instagram? I'm hating Google advertising, they know too much about me. 😵

Good advice @cescajove

Oh!

On a second thought! You have a point there, if we save for unforeseen circumstances according to their various purpose that would give a chance to stay on track too!

Thanks for this!

I appreciate you Karen for this question...because this was my situation this month and I needed to put myself in order.😇

You said it right!LADY

I have been in so many situations that I have promised myself countless times that I wouldn't exceed my budget but the more I promise myself the more I keep exceeding the budget

Believe me, I feel the same way😂 my goal this year is to save more. But it seems the opposite... As of this month, I didn't have anything to my savings yet, money has all been spent for different purposes.. I still don't know when I can start saving lol.
Maybe I should stop going out on holidays haha..

Haha 😂

I have a partner lol.
Honestly, this is super annoying and it continues to baffle me every time. If I tell you my little story you wouldn't help but to laugh out loud! It's ridiculous yet hilarious!

I think you should stop the holiday planning and see if you can save up a little...it's never too late to start!

The quote "Everything is easier said than done. Wanting something is easy. Saying something is easy. The challenge and reward are in the doing" speaks volumes to me. I used to talk a lot, but my actions didn't always follow my words.

However, for over a year now, I've been in the midst of a major change. From now on, I talk less, or I only talk when the action has already been carried out. This change began after I read the book "The Four Toltec Agreements", which had a significant impact on me.

As for the rest of your article, I have nothing to add. It's very complete, the advice is relevant and it's a pleasant read. So, once again, bravo for a job well done!

Honestly, it's easier said than done!

What speaks more volumes is action that's what people look at mostly not mere words.

From now on, I talk less, or I only talk when the action has already been carried out.

This is what I activated this year because am done talking way too much and doing little things. That way it puts more energy into what I want to do.

Thanks for sharing the title of the book that changed your orientation and I am surely looking for the ebook to add to my Apple ebook.

I can totally relate to this. Recently i started keeping an all expense journal because most times after expenses it feels like someone stole from me lol. These all expense journal has helped me alot, especially to be able to notice that the people whom i buy food items from usually over calculate and over charge me. Now anytime i am shopping i go with my phone where i write all what has been bought, amount and calculate them with my calculate. It has helped alot to combat the errors of being over charged Thank you alot for sharing.

Go girl! You have said it all, we are our own mischief and we can decide to break free from it if we want. Impulsive spending can ruin our financial life if we do not take time to plan and strategies for a good financial life. I don't miss recording my expenses every day as it's a one tap on my phone and that keeps me on track of my spendings and also gives me the chance to save more.
