A different way of shopping in the villages: Weekly street market (ESP/ENG)

(Edited)

Hello friends, this is my second participation in the #marketfriday by @dswigle after my participation a few weeks ago.

This week that I am on vacation I have returned to the small town where my mother lives to spend a few days with her. Today my mother has gone to my uncle Salvador's house to make preparations for the New Year's Eve dinner that we traditionally do with the whole family and I have been left in charge of going to the weekly street market to do the shopping.

The weekly street markets are a type of markets in which traders are generally established in a central place and public domain, such as squares or parks of the towns, on a certain day and time to trade their products.

In the street market of La Caridad, which is the one I went to, even though the weather was not very good due to the wind, there were several different stalls where you could buy different types of products.

After taking a walk through the two areas that are enabled in the village for the different market stalls, I have been able to find many stalls of different types of clothing and I have noticed that some of the stalls of the markets are very focused on a particular type of clothing. For example, I have found stalls focused on winter clothes like jackets and sweaters or other stalls very focused on selling underwear and even some more focused on selling socks.

Another of the stalls where I saw that there was a lot of movement of people browsing the products was in the shoe stores. Although the date of Christmas gifts has already passed, in Spain there is a greater tradition to give gifts on January 6 which is the day of the Three Kings of the Orient and it is very useful to give a pair of slippers at home when you do not know what to give.

Apart from the clothing and shoe stalls, one of the most visited stalls was a tiny stall where they hung chorizos and small pork hams. I suspect that just like in my family, many of the families in the village before the New Year's Eve dinner offer the guests some appetizers based on assorted sausages.

And as meat is not the only ingredient for meat stews, in the market we could not miss the fruit and vegetable stands that are so necessary to incorporate them into our diet these weeks of excesses of fatty foods and Christmas sweets.

Finally, I found in a corner of one of the squares a stall that is very particular to Asturias. It is a stall of an artisan who makes handmade wicker baskets and sells handmade knives. I could not take a picture of the knives because, according to the merchant, some of them have patent rights.

Finally, after buying the vegetables, fruit and sausages that I had ordered, my mother returned home, but buying in one of the stalls a sweater that was at a very good price.

Without further ado, I bid you all a happy market Friday and a happy 2023.

Well done! Were the products that you bought a good price or were they priced higher or lower than you thought? It is always interesting to compare there and here or Africa or even Canada. We are all interested in how the world runs.

That is nice that you got to spend time with your family on New Year and how lucky that your street markets are still set up. Mine here in the US - many of the ones in the cold regions don't open, especially with snow.

The clothing section was huge! Thank you for being part of the challenge!

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. By now, you must know how much I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and, make yours or mine better in any way. I have been given hints to make life nicer, and recipes to make dinner interesting. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

At Christmas time prices are usually a little higher than at other times of the year. However, you can negotiate the price a little if you spend a few minutes talking to the shopkeepers and play with the possibility of not buying the clothes at the price they indicate.

In my case the purchase was at a reasonable price.

Thank you very much for your comment

Happy week
