Nuestro querido Taller de Dibujo: ser agradecido y apreciar los momentos [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. I hope you’re all doing well—especially all the Venezuelans reading this post, as well as those in other countries affected by the earthquake that occurred on June 24. These have been very difficult, painful, and sad days, and we know this is just the beginning. Not only is this something we’ll never forget, but we also can’t yet fully grasp the repercussions—the loss of life and property—in our country. All we can do is stay strong, help in any way we can, and recover. With that said, I’d like to dedicate this post to sharing the work created by the children in the Drawing Workshop before the tragedy. I hope this helps us maintain a little calm and optimism.
Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle. Espero que todos se encuentren bien, sobre todo, para todos los venezolanos que leen esta publicación y también para los demás países que se vieron afectados por el terremoto ocurrido este 24 de Junio. Han sido días muy duros, muy dolorosos y tristes, y sabemos que esto apenas comienza. En el sentido en el que no solo es algo que jamás se olvidará sino que también, no alcanzamos a ver las repercusiones, perdidas humanas y materiales en nuestro país. No nos queda más que tener fuerzas, ayudar en lo que podamos y recuperarnos. Dicho esto, dedicare esta publicación para hablar sobre el trabajo de los niños del Taller de Dibujo antes de la tragedia. Esto en favor de mantener un poco la calma y el optimismo.
This was one of the last classes I had with the children. We were supposed to work on engraving on scrap paper and also make stamps out of cardboard. The first activity was for the older children, who are able to handle sharp tools that might be dangerous for the younger ones. The second activity was for the younger children, who made their own cardboard stamps by gluing a figure they wanted to stamp onto them. The children also worked as a team to create a design for a “circus” ticket that will be used at the end-of-school-year celebration to exchange for candy or hot dogs that will be available that day. So they were really excited about it. Each child made their own ticket and added elements they wanted: clowns, a circus tent, balloons, little trees, etc. They enjoyed it immensely, and had a lot of fun with the little stamp, too. Although there were some technical issues, that’s to be expected considering the stamps were made of cardboard.
I really enjoyed that day because we were all gathered around that big table we made by joining several tables and chairs together into one. It had been a while since we’d done that, and I realized we needed to work as a group to see how, one by one, we talked to each other to decide what to add or leave off the ticket, which stamp to use, and so on. I’d like to offer an apology here—it really moves me to see these pictures of us because I try not to connect this to the situation in Venezuela, but it’s very hard; it makes me think of how many children will never set foot in their schools again, see their teachers, hug their moms or dads, laugh, or enjoy the simple things in life. I just ask that each of us contribute a little bit to help us rise above this situation. Stay strong, and hugs. Thanks for stopping by.
Esta era una de las últimas clases que tenía con los niños. Debíamos trabajar el grabado en borradores y también hacer sellos con cartón. La primera actividad fue para los más grandes quienes pueden trabajar herramientas filosas o que pueden ser peligrosas para los niños más chiquitos. La segunda actividad fue para los niños mas chiquitos, quienes construyeron sus propios sellos de cartón alf pegar sobre ellos mismos una figura que deseaban estampar. Los niños también trabajaron en equipo para crear un diseño que sirviera para un ticket de "circo" que se utilizará en el cierre del año escolar para intercambiar por golosinas o perritos calientes que estarán disponibles ese día. Entonces estaban bastante entusiasmados con ello. Cada uno hizo su propio ticket y le añadió elementos que querían: payasos, carpa de circo, globos, arbolitos, etc. Lo disfrutaron muchísimo y luego con el sellito también. Aunque hubieron algunos problemas técnicos, pero algo normal considerando que eran de cartón.
Me disfrute mucho ese día porque estaban todos en esa gran mesa que hicimos a partir de varias mesas y sillas unidas en una sola. Teníamos tiempo sin hacer eso y veo que hacía falta trabajar en grupo para ver cómo uno a uno se hablaban para tomar nota sobre que cosa añadir o no en el ticket, que sello hacer y etc. Aquí una disculpa, me conmueve mucho ver estás imágenes de nosotros porque intento no relacionar esto con la situación en Venezuela, pero es muy duro, me hace pensar en cuantos niños no volverán a pisar sus escuelas, ver a sus profesores, abrazar a sus mamás o papás, reír y disfrutar de lo ordinario. Solo pido que cada uno de nosotros aportemos un poquito para levantarnos de esta situación. Fuerzas y abrazos. Gracias por pasar por aquí.
