How is my dear Hive community? today I bring a different post, more oriented to the culture of the country where I currently live, Uruguay, in the three years that I have been living here I have adapted to local customs, both in food, language and also shopping, today I come to tell them a little about the practice of neighborhood fairs of fruits, vegetables and other products.
¿Cómo se encuentra mi querida comunidad de Hive? hoy traigo un post diferente, mas orientado a la cultura del pais donde vivo actualmente, Uruguay, en los tres años que llevo viviendo aqui me he acoplado a las costumbres locales, tanto en la comida, el lenguaje y tambien las compras, hoy vengo a hablarles un poco sobre la práctica de ferias vecinales de frutas, hortalizas y otros productos.
In different parts of the city, every day at dawn, the tarantines and commercial spaces of different items begin to be set up, headed by their own producers or resellers, on several occasions I have found myself driving my motorcycle and I realize that in a certain street one day a neighborhood fair is set up. After all the commercial activity, the street that hosted the fair remains closed for a few hours until a large truck with brushes and water passes by washing the street that remains with vegetable remains.
A curious fact is that many personal hygiene or cleaning products are resold at these fairs, by people who travel to the border with Brazil and bring them from there, being much cheaper than those manufactured in the country.
En diferentes lugares de la ciudad todos los dias a la madrugada se empiezan a armar los tarantines y espacios de comercios de diferentes rubros, encabezados por sus propios productores o revendedores, en varias ocasiones me he encontrado manejando mi moto y me doy cuenta que en cierta calle cierto dia se arma una feria vecinal. Luego de toda la actividad comercial, la calle que hospedo la feria se mantiene cerrada por unas horas hasta que un gran camion con ceppillos y agua pasa lavando la calle que queda con restos de verduras.
Un dato curioso es que muchos productos de aseo personal o limpieza son revendidos en estas ferias, por personas que viajan a la frontera con Brasil y las traen de alli, siendo mucho mas economicas que las fabricadas en el pais.
The most popular is of course the Tristan Narvaja Fair, it takes place every Sunday morning on Tristán Narvaja street starting on July 18 and running for 7 blocks, this fair houses more than 110 years of local tradition and is a typical walk in the city.
Most of the neighborhood fairs have mainly fruits and vegetables, but this fair in particular presents a great variety in what concerns fish, charcuterie and cheeses, even many Venezuelan proposals are possible to find on Sundays, for example the precious llanero cheese, which I usually buy at the stall we see below.

La más popular es por su puesto la Feria de Tristan Narvaja, se realiza todas las mañanas de los domingos en la calle de Tristán Narvaja comenzando en 18 de Julio y transcurriendo por 7 cuadras, esta feria alberga mas de 110 años de tradición local y es un paseo típico de la ciudad.
La mayoría de las ferias vecinales tienen principalmente frutas y verduras, pero esta feria en particular presenta una gran variedad en lo que pescadería, charcutería y quesos se refiere, incluso muchas propuestas venezolanas son posibles de encontrar los domingos, por ejemplo el preciado queso llanero, el cual suelo comprar en el puesto que vemos aquí abajo.
But this particular fair is also a kind of flea market, you can find antiques, used objects, carpentry items, household varieties, charcuterie, cheeses, entrepreneurial items, collectibles, among many other street gastronomic proposals.

In my opinion, the great value that consumers have when visiting these fairs is the large amount that is saved by buying vegetables and fruits in an environment with a lot of competition, this stimulates the seller to offer a better product for a lower price, not to mention the fact that many sell their own crops.
Pero esta feria en particular es también como especie de mercado de pulgas, puedes encontrar antiguedades, objetos usados, articulos de carpinteria, variedades del hogar, charcutería, quesos, articulos de emprendimientos, objetos coleccionables, entre muchas otras propuestas gastronómicas callejeras.
Según mi parecer el gran valor que tienen los consumidores al visitar estas ferias es la gran cantidad que se ahorra comprando las verduras y frutas en un entorno con mucha competencia, eso estimula al vendedor a ofrecer mejor producto por menor precio, sin contar el hecho que muchos venden sus propios cultivos.
In addition, there are proposals for artisanal products or products made by smaller, non-industrialized producers, such as eggs, cheese, clothing, leather goods, among many other proposals that turn out to be cheaper and stimulate the economy of the local producer or the entrepreneur
For the most part I visit the fair on Sundays for the supplies of my pets and for weekly vegetables, in a previous market study I compared the prices of some vegetables at the fair with the prices of the supermarket closest to my house and it is estimated that I had a saving of 40% of the price, it is a big difference, it is also a nice experience to go out to the open air to buy or enjoy a bit of Uruguayan customs and on many occasions find a great variety that does not exist in any store or supermarket.
Además se tienen propuestas de productos artesanales o realizados por productores mas pequeños no industrializados, como es el caso de los huevos, el queso, ropa, articulos de cuero, entro otras muchas propuestas que resultan ser más baratas y estimulan la economía del productor local o el emprendedor.
En su mayoria yo visito la feria los domingos por los insumos de mis mascotas y por las verduras semanales, en un estudio de mercado anterior comparé los precios de algunas verduras de la feria con los precios del supermercado mas cercano a mi casa y se estima que tuve un ahorro de 40% del precio, es una gran diferencia ademas es una linda experiencia salir al aire libre a comprar o disfrutar un poco de las costumbres uruguayas y en muchas ocaciones encontrar una gran variedad que no existe en niguna tienda o spermercado.
