Hive Needs Development and New Mindset

Hive has been my number one platform for all things crypto for about 6 years now. I continue to build, promote, offer feedback and support projects I believe in that help the hive ecosystem. There's two huge issues however with the adoption of Hive left. One was for the most part recently taken care of which was onboarding new users. No longer are there complicated systems instead many front ends like Splinterlands, Encency and LeoFinance are offering up easy onboarding for new users which has done wonders already for adoption of hive. We've seen a dramatic shift in new people using the platform since these changes where made.

What Are The Next Steps?

Development and shifting the mind focus of how hive is used and payouts. In fact perhaps this shift wont be with hive directly but instead some type of layer2 content token. So far the only layer two solutions I know of are Hive-Engine and DLUX. Hive might not have an official layer two token and insides might be off shoot platforms such as this. The main issue with that however is each of these off shoots are centralized big time so at some point I'd like to see some type of official hive layer 2 token.

Development

At the core of it all Hive needs serious development. The only places where I've started to see action on this primarily would be DLUX,3SPK,Speaknetwork and LeoFinance who are offering up solutions to provide more liquidity to hive for trading. Thus removing centralized exchanges which are huge bottlenecks right now. I'd love to see Hive have some type of decentralized exchange but maybe that's a place LeoFinance or another developer could step in and start building. Outside of that continued game development needs to take place but better solutions for NFTs of these games. If anyone is able to mimic something on the likes of AtomicHub but for Hive that could be one very powerful platform with a 1% or 2% fee to fuel and fund it all.

Imagine what it would be like if Hive had it's own exchange outside of just Hive and HBD. That connected to other blockchains and allowed for easy onboarding and exiting with a small fee collection on it. That fee collection provides value and fuels development of future projects.

Mindset

One of the biggest issues I've had with onboarding content creators with large followings which I feel would steamroll onboarding of hive is the only getting paid 7 days after a post is made. This includes many other post types now such as LeoThreads, SoMee 3Speak etc.

The big killers for me are 3Speak video platform where all content creators are used to creating a video and it paying them revenue for years to come based on ads and traffic to the video. To get people excited and building content on these platforms I firmly feel a new mindset has to be brought forward to hive or the layer two tokens that offer up passive income based on traffic and ad usage on these platforms. In particular what makes Youtube so popular is the ability to create videos and earn passive income off of those videos for months and years later.

For myself I feel this is going to be up to layer 2 tokens to find solutions to this depending on the platform they have. For example I think 3speak is the core example of where ad revenue should be paid to those content creators over 7 days. Hive itself however will become more and more valuable as a resource credit for projects as well as users.

What are you thoughts on paying out past 7 days?

Hmm, interesting. I guess thats correct!
It would be awesome to be able to earn past the 7 days on posts/videos.

But how do we stop abuse them?

It would have to come down to trackable ad revenue I would think. Much like importing the current system that Youtube has. Of course rules would have to be in place and that's up to the layer 2 token. For sure lots of talk and trial and error to take place till we get it figured out.

Earning forever on posts would be an incredible game changer. I see it happen some day…

HIVE is one of the most developed chains and you are right, we need many things starting with DEXs, more liquidity and privacy

Big time hopefully either the core developers start doing it I don't see an outside platform really doing it.

You're preaching to the converted here!

In its current form, Hive encourages churning out low quality, repetitive, garbage to simply spread the HIVE governance token.

Thus completely overlooking and quite frankly wasting the real value that can be derived from high-quality evergreen content.

It's now up to Hive's layer-2 to maximise the value of content and the perfect place to start is for just ONE community to use ad revenue to buy/burn tokens off the market.

Just one.

Someone.

Anyone.

Do it already so we can work out a path toward sustainable layer-2 tokenomics.

ARGHH!!! 🤯

Yep, I really think it's going to be up to layer2 tokens to build out a system that pays ad revenue to the content creators.

That's the biggest feedback I get from creators. Why would I create all this hive content and only get paid for 7 days for it and then nothing. That might sound selfish but honestly that's the way every other platform content creators work. Makes no sense why ad revenue is so under utilized.

(Edited)

@theycallmedan had mentioned getting rid of blogging rewards (as far as I know) at some point in the future. If my powered up hive could earn more than 3%, then I would be in favour of reducing or getting rid of rewards all together. I know that would be controversial though.

I'd be curious to see how that works. There's for sure a lot of options but the old 7 days or rewards and then nothing for video seems like a bad idea for adoption of the platform. I could be wrong though of course. Just feels like some of the layer two projects might need to really consider the tokenomics from that point.

What if we put a cap or limit on how much a post could earn, lets say $50, $75 or even $100. We all know that some people regularly get over-rewarded simply because big accounts need to upvote in order to earn.

Nothing here that i havent already said twenty times or more.
We have the best base layer out there but it just needs to be used correctly to see real success.
People to build actual businesses on hive like splinterlands with revenue and marketing. Take rewards out of blogging and into payer 2 tokens.
Have hive as a staking token only to power accounts and vote on the chain. it would solve a lot of the current rewards issues and retention issues. Then have ad revenue on those layer two sites that will buy tokens off the mmarket and get rid of the 7 day window.

Great post, HIVE is in continuous development, I think it just needs to connect the world of HIVE even more with the centralized world in order to create a real monthly income. Or do you think this is unnecessary?

Interesting article, man. I'm new at Hive and for me have complete sense what you say about 3Speak, passive income would be a nice improvement for content creators. Take care! Following you now for more interesting readings!

Welcome to hive! Great having you with us and there's a bunch of people with great knowledge here. Be sure to share yours when you're ready. Outside of blogging there's going to be many more ways to interact with the hive blockchain.
