Hive growing strategies during bear market: Hive Power or HBD?

avatar
We live in a prolonged bear market, and things might worsen before getting better. And in such times it is not easy to keep the motivation that has driven us with so much enthusiasm during bull runs, but if we want to build up for the future we better be present in the game. And one ecosystem in which we are all hustling is the Hive blockchain. With Hive's price standing at $0.40 and Hive Dollar (HBD) around $1.00, we are all thinking about which is the best strategy to apply during the bear market. Should we keep accumulating Hive and powering up into Hive Power or should we convert our earnings into HBD to get that sweet 20% APR for Savings?

In my opinion, as the Hive price is way under the price of Hive stablecoin HBD, it doesn't make sense to convert that into HBD and move to Savings. We have already seen HIVE at higher prices than $1 and even reaching $3.41 on Nov 26, 2021 (8 months ago), so if just this replays back at the same levels in a few months or years, that should give us a hefty return, way above what HBD could give us even if in more stable terms. Thus for me, it makes more sense to convert all my earnings to Hive Power and earn more from curation.

From content creation, I will put the HBD earnings part into Savings in order to grow also the stablecoins in the portfolio, but will not do that to the detriment of Hive which is finding itself at a low value these days. This way the diversification and growth of both assets will continue and will create better opportunities for the future.

And don't like liquidating entire assets and moving the funds into others (like selling HBD for HIVE), but rather diversify the risk and keep both assets in my portfolio. If the stablecoin portion from the portfolio would occupy a big part, probably I would use some funds to acquire more cheap HIVE, but as it is not the case I will continue building up also on this asset.

What is your strategy regarding HIVE and HBD during this bear market? Are you playing one asset against the other or which path have you chosen on it?

I accumulate all the HBD I can, if we reach lower levels of HIVE I might transform it on HIVE and power it up

Yeap, that sounds like a good strategy if HIVE will get back at $0.10 as it did in the past. Using HBD to buy at such a price point would make sense.

I totally agree with you that there is no sense in converting HIVE to HBD. I have some Hive liquid but most is HP which I'm stacking on. With these prices, I'm also using reward HBD to buy HIVE. Powering down even a small part of my HP is somewhere in the distant future, maybe somewhere between $0.8-1.

Right, I had liquid HIVE but at the current prices, there will not be any market opportunity to sell anytime soon. Thus I have powered it all up in order to increase my stake in HP.

Yeah, that's a good point. It'll just be there idle when it could be getting us that APR in form of curating.

I have some Leo tokens. I only have a few HBD in savings, most of my value assets is in Splinterlands. I spent too much money on chaos packs and not gained much. I need try and diversity my holdings more efficiently !

Well, the HBD and Hive is a Dilemma, I think some people who are converting Hive to HBD or Hive alone are seeking for stability

That's true, but as the Hive price goes down is hard for me to spend it for HBD. But indeed, stablecoins are important during bear markets and ensure a steady income.

Agree this a dilemma. As much as I would like to Stack Hive, I save my HBD awards to earn 20% APR and I may buy Hive with it, if Hive hits less then 20 cents.

Well at that stage where Hive might hit 20 cents $2 is also a possibility

I am hopeful that Hive will come out of the bear market before the rest of the market, and indeed would love to see it hit $2.00. I certainly would buy at the low price of 20 cents and hold until it gets to 2$ !

Completely agree with you.
Before the value of Hive dropped below one dollar I had 1500 HBD now I only have 300 and I used them to increase my HP

I couldn't agree more. Considering the way things are now, it's only wise to do this. But then, I understand that it's different strokes for different folks.

Powering up seems to be the best move so far, and I am continuing to power up. But another option is providing pHIVE-POLYCUB liquidity. Both of them are pretty much bottomed out at this point.

It's a 50-50 approach for me just like you, I power up from content creating and save my HBD.
It is tempting to convert one for the other but am sticking to my strategy for now.

Hive Power for me right now. I am powering up all of it! So that when then bull comes, I will book my profits. Put them into savings until the next bear. That's how we multiply our stake sir. xD It's a long game though. Need to hit 100k Hive Power xD

I do agree as there is no point adding to the HBD right now at 40c. Hive at $2 or $3 is a no brainer but at 40c not now as that can turn into 5 x more which HBD cannot do.

Any HBD I receive while HIVE is above $1, I save.

Any HBD I receive while HIVE is below $1, I convert to HIVE.

We always get a HIVE price pump well above 20% in each 12 month cycle.

I understand the need for a diversified portfolio. It seems wise. My only concern is the fear of sub 20 cent Hive. My memory of the last Bull market is very low Hive prices, as low as 8 cents I believe. So I like you stack my HBD rewards and power down my Hive to convert to HBD.

As much as I would like to Stack Hive, I save my HBD awards to earn 20% APR and I may buy Hive with it, if Hive hits less then 20 cents.

I would like to build more HP but I still have an HBD goal to hit. So I will see how much I will have available. At least right now, I think HP is the better choice and HBD is better when the prices are high.
