It has been a while since I last created a design related to animals, and as I follow the signs of life, they inspired me to design something related to one of my favourite animals, a bird that symbolises wisdom, seeing beyond the obvious, which I associate with the night, the moon, mystery, but above all with that intense vision of what is not normally seen with the naked eye.

They are the night, the light, knowledge, and having an owl as a power animal and discovering what it means and how much its characteristics can help is wonderful. They protect us on unusual journeys, in dark places, they give us intuition and also a lot of security. If anyone is interested in knowing more, here is a link with further information.

I have always liked them, and I remember when an owl came to visit me in my garden. It was very beautiful, and I immediately felt a fondness for these birds. I was very young, and since then I knew that their characteristics accompanied me.

Design process

The design was created entirely in Photoshop CS6, without using AI, using eight images distributed across 23 layers.

To create the background, I used an image of a very white moon and placed two images of forests on top of it, one of them with snow. I arranged the first one in three layers with focal light, strong light and soft light blends. I arranged the second one in two layers with soft light and focal light blends.

Then I selected the book, copied and pasted it into the design, placing it at the bottom with the lightest colour blend. I went back to the first layer, selected the moon and made a layer with it, enlarging the scale to cover the entire design, which would give it light by placing it with the overlay blend.

Next, I worked on the image of the woman. First, I placed her on one side of the design, erasing the background and using the hard light blend. Then I duplicated the layer and enlarged the image, focusing on the face, and placed it in the centre with the darken blend. I duplicated the layer again and applied the lighter colour blend. I placed the large moon between the two layers of the woman's face.

I selected the autumn leaf and placed it over the woman's eyes in two layers to cover them. Then I selected the image of one of the owls and placed it on one side of the design, covering the first image of the woman, as if replacing it, in two layers, where the second layer is only the owl's eye. Blends used: lighten and normal.

Then I arranged the image of the second owl in normal mode with the centre being the eye. I duplicated the image of the woman again, reduced the scale to fit the bird's eye in two layers with screen and soft light blends. Then I duplicated the image of the book twice and placed it at the bottom with darker colour and soft light blends.

Finally, I duplicated the forest images and used parts of them, one for each side of the design, where I used overlay and hard light blends. I used the added edges filter to enhance the bird's plumage and the ink outlines filter to give the woman inside the eye an effect.

The animation is done completely in After Effects, working on the opacity of each layer and adding lights in the form of clouds for better contrast.

Hace tiempo que no realizaba un diseño con relación a animales y como sigo las señales de la vida, ellas me inspiraron a diseñar algo relacionado con uno de los animales que más me gustan, un ave que simboliza la sabiduría, el ver más allá de lo evidente, al cual relaciono con la noche, la luna, el misterio, pero sobre todo con esa visión intensa de lo que normalmente no se ve a simple vista.

Ellos son la noche, la luz, el conocimiento y tener a un búho o una lechuza como animal de poder y haber descubierto lo que significa y cuanto pueden ayudar sus características es maravilloso. Ellos protegen en viajes poco comunes, en lugares oscuros, dan intuición y también mucha seguridad. Si a alguien le interesa saber más les dejo un enlace con más información.

Siempre me han gustado y recuerdo cuando una lechuza vino a visitarme a mi jardín, era muy hermosa y sentí inmediatamente el gusto por estas aves, yo era muy niña, y desde entonces sabía que sus características me acompañaban.

Proceso del diseño

El diseño está realizado enteramente en Photoshop CS6, sin usar IA, utilizando ocho imágenes distribuidas en 23 capas.

Para crear el fondo usé una imagen donde aparece una luna muy blanca y sobre ella coloqué dos imágenes de bosques, una de ellas con nieve. La primera la dispuse en tres capas con fusiones de luz focal, luz fuerte y luz suave. La segunda la dispuse en dos capas con fusiones de luz suave y luz focal.

Luego seleccioné el libro, copié y pegué en el diseño colocándolo en la parte de abajo con la fusión de color más claro. Volví a la primera capa, seleccioné la luna e hice una capa con ella, agrandando la escala para que cubra todo el diseño, le daría luz al mismo al colocarla con la fusión de superponer.

Posteriormente trabajé la imagen de la mujer, primero la puse en un lado del diseño, borrando el fondo y con la fusión de luz fuerte. Luego dupliqué la capa y agrandé a imagen enfocando el rostro, lo coloqué en la zona central con la fusión de oscurecer. Volví a duplicar la capa y le puse fusión color más claro. La luna grande la puse entre las dos capas del rostro de la mujer.

Seleccioné la hoja de otoño y la puse sobre los ojos de la mujer en dos capas para cubrirlos y lego seleccioné la imagen de uno de los búhos y lo coloqué a un lado del diseño tapando la primera imagen de la mujer, como sustituyéndola, en dos capas, en donde la segunda es sólo el ojo del búho. Fusiones usadas, aclarar y normal.

Luego dispuse la imagen del segundo búho en modo normal y donde el centro fuera el ojo. Volví a duplicar la imagen de la mujer, achiqué la escala para que quepa en el ojo del ave en dos capas con fusiones trama y luz suave. Luego dupliqué la imagen del libro dos veces y lo coloqué en la parte baja con fusiones color más oscuro y luz suave.

Finalmente dupliqué las imágenes de los bosques y usé partes de ella, una para cada lado del diseño donde usé las fusiones de superponer y luz fuerte. Usé el filtro de bordes añadidos para realzar el pelaje del ave y el de contornos con tinta para darle un efecto a la mujer dentro del ojo.

La animación está realizada completamente en After Effects, trabajando la opacidad de cada capa y agregando luces en forma de nubes para un mejor contraste.
