Ahoy fellow Splinterlands players. Welcome to my next Battle Mage Secrets post for the weekly challenge.

The featured ruleset for this week is the Wands Out ruleset. With this ruleset active only Monsters with Magic attacks can be used.

You can recognise the ruleset with the following icon.

Monsters that have a dual attack combo of Magic + Melee OR Magic + Ranged can also still be used here because they have a Magic attack. There aren't a whole lot of those but there are some so you should still keep that in mind.

The battle I want to share with you for this week's challenge is from like 2 or 3 days ago when I was battling in Modern Ranked. This was a Silver league battle as I didn't advance to Gold for the season yet at that time. The battle was against the player reymbil.

Battle Rules

This was a battle with a 46 Mana Cap. Half of the Elements were available being Fire, Life and Death Elements. The battle had 2 rulesets:

• Born Again: All Monsters have the Rebirth ability.
• Wands Out: Only Monsters with Magic attack may be used in battles.

Battle Lineup

There could be some possibilities here with Fire and Life, but if my opponent plays Thaddius Brood for the Magic damage reduction it could be annoying. If I had a level 2 Kralus where it gets Heal I would've been more likely to go with Life though as it could stay alive quite long with its Heal especially if I pair it with Elven Mystic to reduce my opponents Magic damage. In Fire I could've maybe considered Yodin with Calduum up front as it has Void. But that would work better with a level 4 Elven Mystic with Silence, and since my Yodin Zaku is only level 1 I wouldn't be able to do that.
Now there is also the option to go with Owster Rotwell, and I have definitely used my level 1 Owster in the past against level 4+ other Summoners to win. But with this higher amount of mana I didn't wanna use the level 1 Summoner as I'd prefer being able to use some higher levelled Monsters.

So I decided I'll just go with Thaddius Brood thinking my opponent would likely do so too.

In the front I have Djinn Muirat, since he has Void Armour it's a great choice as a frontline because the Magic attacks first have to break through the Armour. Also when he gets resurrected from the Born Again ruleset he gets all his Armour back so takes a few extra hits to die. Also at level 2 he has Giant Killer, dealing double damage against Monsters that cost 10+ Mana. So if my opponent somehow did go with Life and had Kralus for example well then I could deal double damage to it and hopefully kill it quickly. That's kinda why I needed Thaddius Brood too instead of Owster Rotwell, since with Owster I couldn't bring the level 2.

Up next I have Usut, bringing him for his high health so he can act as a secondary tank. Hoping that he might get some kills as well to get stronger from his Bloodlust.

Then I have Ancient Lich, at level 2 it has the Void ability so by reducing my opponents Magic damage significantly it's possible that he'll never even take any damage from Magic attacks. He also has Life Leech so when he hits the enemies Health he will start gaining some Health to become tankier.

Now in my lineup I have Elven Mystic, at level 4 it has the Silence ability so I have a second reduction for Magic Damage by pairing it with Thaddius Brood. I chose to place it here just so my last 2 Monsters with the Poison ability could stay alive longer.

For my final 2 choices I went with Venari Bonesmith and Doctor Blight both with the Poison ability. If they can land that Poison it will help with taking out my enemies' Monsters. The only thing is that if they do decide to bring a Kralus then their Poison won't work as it has Immunity.

Battle Analysis

My opponent went with Thaddius Brood as well for that -1 Magic damage and -1 Health. This causes almost all of my Magic attack monsters to be reduced to 1 Magic attack, except for Ancient Lich who is at 2 Magic attack. My opponent brought 2 Magic attackers with 3 Magic attack, but I reduce them down to 1 with the combo of Thaddius Brood and Elven Mystic.

My opponent is also using Djinn Muirat as a frontline because it's an excellent tank here with the Void Armour and also getting resurrected. That's actually the only card that we're both using. My opponent is using Chaos Legion and Reward Cards (from Chaos Legion) whereas my team also includes 2 Untamed Cards (1 from the core and 1 from the reward cards).

Their Magi Necrosi starts by hitting my Usut due to the Snipe ability. It doesn't do much though as it got its Magic attack reduced to 1.

Apart from that all the hits from both teams will be against the opponent's Djinn Muirat.
My Venari Bonesmith lands an early Poison which is really great to help deal extra damage to their Djinn Muirat.
Their Revealer stuns my Djinn Muirat so he'll lost his turn in the next round.
My Ancient Lich gains +1 Health from Life Leech for doing a direct hit to the enemy Djinn Muirat after his Armour was broken.

My Djinn Muirat is at 6 Health and theirs is at 4 Health at the end of this first round.

Those are the most important things from the first round summed up pretty briefly.

Their Djinn Muirat takes 2 Poison damage then gets hit by my Elven Mystic followed by my Venari Bonesmith who deals the final blow. Causing it to now get resurrected.
It requires the combined powers of my Doctor Blight, Ancient Lich and Usut to take away the Resurrected Djinn Muirat's Armour. That stun on my Djinn Muirat causing it to miss its attack thus also led to not being able to kill the Djinn Muirat again this round. Also my Doctor Blight didn't land Poison, if he did then the Poison would've been able to do the trick.

At the end of the second round my Djinn Muirat still has 2 Health as my opponent was only able to deal 4 damage to mine that round. Their Djinn Muirat is at 1 Health.

In Round 3 my Venari Bonesmith lands the killing blow to their Djinn Muirat. It also lands Poison but that's gone completely to waste since the Djinn Muirat died.
This round they kill my Djinn Muirat for the first time, causing it to get resurrected with the 4 Armour.
My units attack Skok Duskblight and get him down to 1 Health. Unfortunately no Poison from Doctor Blight this time either which means the Skok Duskblight stays alive at the start of the round.

Round 4 for me begins with another kill from my Venari Bonesmith then as it deals the final blow to Skok Duskblight. Who gets Resurrected from the Born Again ruleset only to immediately die again to my Elven Mystic this time.
My opponent's team finally kills my Djinn Muirat for good.
My Doctor Blight and Ancient Lich work together to kill the opponent's Life Sapper. It gets Resurrected and then immediately killed by my Usut who now gains +1 to all stats thanks to Bloodlust. Meaning I now have 2 Monsters with 2 Magic attack.

Now that my Ancient Lich is in the second position and with it having the Void ability the opponent's Magi Necrosi is unable to do any damage to me.
My Venari Bonesmith and Elven Mystic both weaken the opponent's Revealer. This time Usut is the one guaranteed to attack next since he now has 2 Speed compared to my other legendaries with 1 Speed. Which gives it the final kill against Revealer to get a second Bloodlust. The Revealer does get Resurrected and then dies again to my Ancient Lich.
This time Doctor Blight lands a Poison when it attacks the Magi of Chaos.

Here is a picture of our lineups after round 5 is over.

Magi of Chaos goes down to 2 Health at the start of the round from taking that Poison damage.
Usut is now at the same Speed as Elven Mystic and Venari Bonesmith, due to being a Legendary he now goes first and with the Magi of Chaos at 2 Health my Usut can kill it and gain another Bloodlust.
Magi of Chaos gets Resurrected and immediately dies to my Elven Mystic.

Now my opponent only has their Magi Necrosi left with 4 Health. My Venari Bonesmith, Ancient Lich and Doctor Blight have exactly 4 combined damage to take it out. Doctor Blight gets the final kill. I tried to capture a screenshot of it.

The end? No not quite! Magi Necrosi still gets Resurrected of course due to the Born Again ruleset. But that doesn't really matter much as it will just immediately die to my Usut at the start of the final round who is happy with another Bloodlust! Now it is indeed the end! GG!

Was My Strategy Successful?

Yeah it was a great strategy. Bringing the Elven Mystic for the Silence ability helped a good amount so that my opponent's Magi of Chaos and Magi Necrosi were also brought down to 1 Magic attack. Having Usut as my 2nd Monster then caused that Snipe ability to be no problem at all since it was just 1 damage per turn.

Bringing the Venari Bonesmith and Doctor Blight for 2 chances to Poison helped out a lot. Due to the - Magic from Thaddius Brood both our damage outputs were reduced a lot and so that extra 2 damage from Poison was definitely great to take his Monsters out faster and thus keeping mine alive.

Conclusion

Really solid pick of units, especially when I would expect my opponent to also bring a lineup with Thaddius Brood. If they would've used Owster Rotwell is might have been a bit annoying with the Magic Reflect, but at least I would've still had the potential extra damage from Poison then.

I would've been really curious to see how it played out of my opponent actually went with Life element and used Kralus. Because that may have given me some trouble especially at level 2 with Heal. Based on the Chaos Legion only lineup from my opponent I don't think they owned him though.

Overall a really solid battle from my end. Love to see Usut getting some Bloodlusts in as it makes him so much stronger. Only downside is that he was in second place so he does start taking damage pretty fast. At least every time he got Bloodlust he also gained +1 Health which would require an additional hit from my opponents' Monsters. And as you can see my Usut was still quite healthy by the time I defeated my opponent's Monsters.
