Hello ladies and gentlemen of hive, I'm glad to be back on here and ready to put up my content in response to this edition contest, with the title " dream job"

While I was growing up it was a roller coaster of emotions of what I wanted to be in life. I can say I was quite good at many things as a kid. Anything that has to do with art. You know art can be of different dimension.

I could draw so well as a kid, I could drum, I could dance and all of that. My drawings as a kid were so superb that my mom approached me one day and said may be I am going to be an artist.

That's not all, when it comes to drumming as well, there is no song I couldn't beat to. Is it dance to? All the trending dance steps then were easy breezy for me.

As I grew older, I dwelled less and less on those talents and found myself gravitating towards teaching.

I had a wide ply wood at the house then, would take chalks from school in preparations to teaching my invisible students when I get home.

I would come back from school and pick two subjects we were taught that day and re-explain in my understanding to my invisible students. I enjoyed it. I can say even till today, I still enjoy teaching.

Going further in my education, no doubt I was quite an intelligent girl and I still am, because of that, teachers were like, you are smart enough to studyedicine and become a doctor.

At that point, I wasn't sure if that was what I wanted but I did not disbound it.

I got home one faithful day to a movie titled " the gifted hands" you might be familiar. It is a story of Ben Carson and how he became one of the greatest neurosurgeon. I watched him save lives in the operating theater. That really motivated me and I was like maybe I could give it a shot.

That time too, there was a TV show sponsored by Vodafone then about saving life's, where people with health challenges that can be corrected with surgical treatment, were brought on the show.

The show filmed just few clips of the surgical process going on. I was thrilled and I was like this could be interesting.

So I thought to myself that would make sense if I become a doctor, then later to a surgeon.

I am aware of the task of being one but I was ready for it. Little did I know that life had another plan for me.

I enrolled for jamb and prep into the university to study medicine. I did well in my UTME, my SSCE was great, Post UTME was also great but University refused to give me what I wanted.

I took that admission of a different course, while in my 100 level, I enrolled for another UTME, passed again but still wasn't given medicine.

I did again for the third time but this time, I chose nursing, I was like Nursing is less competitive compared to Medicine.

Same story o, wasn't given the chance to. That was I finished my university study with the course I was given.

I was not so bothered cos I knew I tried my best.

That was how I changed my narrative of being a doctor or nurse, but I might still find myself in a clinical setting but it's definitely not going to be a doctor or a nurse.

I am an entrepreneur now as a makeup artist. This aligned with my first talent while I was growing up of drawing people, it's a type of art I was used to, so here we are.

Thank you for reading

We have quite a similar story, Nigeria educational system sure knows how to disrupt people's dreams and aspirations.
Also, I think destiny just took it's own course here....
Notwithstanding, as long as you're at peace with yourself, you're good to go 👍

This is the story of many Nigerians, I'm just glad you were able to align to one of your dreams which includes your talents as a kid, the most important thing in life is to be happy with what you do. I can totally relate to your story.
