Bird Canteen (5pics)

Hello, my friends.

Hello Feathered Friends Lovers.

What is it? Why so much husk from seeds? This is the work of those feathered guys and girls who flew on their wings to my bird canteen. Well, not exactly a dining room, but just feeders. But they ate very well. I have already fed about 50 kg of seeds. There is still almost a month of the bird feeding season ahead. I think my food supply will last until the end of the season.

Usually I pour food into the feeders in the evening so that in the morning the birds have already started pecking at the seeds. But the length of daylight increases, birds arrive much earlier than on short winter days. And I must say that more birds are arriving now. Therefore, I try to add extra food to the birds also during the day, if I am at home.
The species range of birds has practically not changed for several years. But this year I didn't see any woodpeckers at the feeder. Last year they even flew in a couple and often. And I was even surprised by this fact. I must say, I haven't heard a woodpecker knock this winter. That's definitely weird.
Closer to the middle of April, birds will begin to return to our region from warm places where they lived during the winter. Some birds may also come to my feeder. But this moment must be caught.

The snow will gradually melt and the spot with the husk will become even larger. There are also piles of husks under other trees, because some birds, especially small ones, take a seed and fly with it to another tree. There they peel the kernel and eat it.

This is a photo from about a year ago. It was taken on March 15, 2022. There is also a husk under the tree. But there was less of it. There's a lot more this year.
Friends, do you feed birds in a difficult winter time?

Friends, do you feed birds in a difficult winter time?

Bird feeding is not a thing over here. Taking aside the old people feeding pigeons at public parks just to pass their time... I don't think anyone else feeds wild birds. Portuguese birds know how to feed themselves! 😅

You don't have winter! You don't know the happiness of feeding birds in the cold. 🤣🤣🤣
Joke.

I have several feeders. One with thistle seed for the finches, suet blocks for the Woodpeckers and another for the seedeaters! It's as much for my benefit as it is theirs! It brings them in closer for me to observe them better.
