Hive Open Mic #123 - I'd like to teach the world to sing (The New Seekers)

A Better World For All
For this week's theme I will be playing a song from 1971, which my partner suggested and which I remember from when I was a kid, but as with many English language songs of the time, I never knew the lyrics until now.

My version of this beautiful tune is very much shortened and tuned down, unlike the original with its wonderful harmonies. I haven't had enough time to practice them, but I got another chance at doing some bass walking, which is brilliant! A bit of swing seems to fit that melody quite well.

We keep hearing people saying, that music is a universal language, that connects across borders, so, wouldn't it be wonderful if it did just that? Connect people by singing in harmony?

I am normally an optimistic sort of person, and I'd like to stay that way, but somehow do I struggle to see, that we ever come to our senses as a species.. On the other hand does a place like Hive, where people connect far and wide, give me hope, that people will learn from and to respect each other!

Thanks for listening, Hivers!

Lyrics

I'd like to build a world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow white turtle doves

I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms
And keep it company

I'd like to see the world for once
All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
For peace throughout the land

That's a song I hear
Let the world sing today
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
La, la, la, la
To, do, do, do, do, do
La, la, la

Hola, @anna-newkey. He venido a visitarte desde otro continente y he disfrutado tu trabajo musical. Tu hermosa voz y tu forma de tocar el piano. Una hermosa canción nos traes, con una letra sencilla, pero que refleja tantos sueños, ilusiones y esperanzas por ese mundo mejor que necesitamos. Gracias por compartir. Mil bendiciones. Éxito.

Hi, @anna-newkey. I have come to visit you from another continent and I have enjoyed your musical work. Your beautiful voice and your way of playing the piano. You bring us a beautiful song, with simple lyrics, but that reflects so many dreams, illusions and hopes for that better world that we need. Thanks for sharing. A thousand blessings. Success.

Te he oído tocar guitarra, harmónica y ahora piano ¿Cuántos instrumentos musicales tocas?

I've heard you play guitar, harmonica and now piano. How many musical instruments do you play?

Well, hello, my Venezuelan friend!
That is so lovely that you're giving this a listen and I am equally glad you like so many aspects of it, that makes me very happy!
I have quite a collection of instruments, I just like to try things, ukulele, violin, tin whistles, we also have a bass guitar.
But the guitar and the piano is what you can find me at most days.. haha
Thank you so much, my friend and many, many greetings back from the UK!

My dear, we don't know where to start! whether for your wonderful message or for this very special Cover that although you say you didn't rehearse enough, you did it brilliantly and with your heart.
I have to tell you that without a doubt in these times it is difficult to understand each other, but if there are more people like you in the world I think everything would be easier. You have made an excellent choice and as always shining, thank you for sharing your gifts 💜.

Haha, brilliant! Yes, saw that it was for Coke initially, but I don't remember it to be honest.. might have even been dubbed in some way if it was used in Germany..
Five years! OMG! 😄
