Urang-aring is a multi-stemmed wild plant, which grows in open places such as roadsides, fields, or on the edges of ditches. This plant can live in areas ranging from the coast to an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level.

This plant is single-leafed, ovate, alternately opposite, the tip and base are tapered, with serrated edges. The leaves are green with pinnate spines, and the surface is hairy. The flowers are compound, hump-shaped. The petals are funnel-shaped, with a six-pointed tip, green. The crown consists of five petals, the stamens are yellow, the pistil is white and yellow.
