Today is Wednesday 4 June 2025.

Here we are with another world in Spanish. Now we have Toe. So, today let's see the word 'Toe'. Do you know how we say 'Toe' in Spanish?

An additional modification since the number 38; I found a book, a kind of Pictionary with English and Chinese in every word (There is no a precise source, maybe it made for a local academy). Then I will follow it and add the Spanish corresponding word. It has a sentence which I am translating also in Spanish, and noting small differences when necessary, then it has a version in English, Chinese and Spanish. After this pictionary I will put the usual description of the word.

As this word has a special distinction comparing to Spanish I am doing some explanation how Spanish makes the distinction between hand and toes.

Explanation of the Difference Between "Toe" and "Dedo del Pie"

In English, the word "toe" specifically refers to the digits on the foot. There is no separate word for the digits on the hand; they are simply called "fingers."

In Spanish, the word "dedo" is used for both fingers and toes. To specify which part of the body we are referring to, we use additional words:

  • Dedos de la mano: Fingers (digits of the hand)
  • Dedos de los pies: Toes (digits of the feet)

So, while English has distinct words for fingers and toes, Spanish uses the same root word ("dedo") but adds descriptors to clarify whether it's referring to the hand or the foot. And have a expression: De puntillas= on toes.

Summary Comparison

LanguageGeneral Word for DigitsSpecific for HandSpecific for Foot
EnglishFinger/ToeFingerToe
SpanishDedoDedos de la manoDedos de los pies
Chinese趾 (zhǐ)手指 (shǒuzhǐ)脚趾 (jiǎozhǐ)

In both Spanish and Chinese, the same base word is used for digits, but context or additional descriptors are needed to specify whether it's referring to the hand or the foot. In contrast, English has distinct words for fingers and toes.
