Early exposure of children to sex education is of great importance in this current generation we are. Child tend to learn faster above their age in this generation. Exposing children to sex education is a way of educating them about sex so as to prevent them from unforeseen danger.

In African homes, educating children about sex sounds like a taboo. You dare not talk about sexual organ talkless of talking about sex as a child. It is a serious crime in most african homes.

While I was a child I dare not mention sex near my parents. It was a grevous offence. They already made it clear to us that if anything of such is said in the house, such child will be beaten to stupor. The fear of how they will discipline us a child silence us from bringing up such topic at home.

Infact my mum created fear in me and told me whenever a guy touches me, I will get pregnant. They never explained in details. They only instructed me never to allow any boy to touch me and I believe that lie for years only for me to discover it was not true.

But sincerely, things are changing everyday. Children of nowadays are so inquistive and they tends to learn things faster. Recently, I overheard a conversation between two children of age 5 and 6 respectively. I was so surprise about the level of their knowledge because they spoke like an adult.

In my own opinion, I believe it is right to have a sex talk with our kids earlier enough while they are still young. It is always advisable for parent to have sex talk with their children before they hear it from an outsider. Reason why is because they might get access to information about sex that might put them in danger. The fact is that you can't measure the quality of the information they heard from an outsider about sex. Some information about sex might be of negative influence which can lead them astray if care is not taking.

As parents, it advisable to present sex talk to our children in a positive way. Make it clear and simple for them to understand. Give them access to ask questions and open up to you.

For instance, as a parent I will educate them about the part of the body, sex organ, what sex is meant for and reason why they should abstain from sex as children. Lastly, I will inform them to tell me whenever anyone make any sexual advances at them.

With all this, I already safeguard their knowledge about sex and if anyone else tell them anything contrary to what i told them, they will be free to inform me as their mother and I will be able correct any wrong information they heard outside.

The truth is that if you refused to have a sex talk with your children thinking they are too young for it, Social media and Outsiders will help you educate them beyond what you thought, so it's better to start early to as to safeguard them from wrong sex talks they might hear from friends or outsiders.

I really resonate with your personal perspective. It is true sex was considered a taboo in many homes and still now it's happening. A lot of children grow up being told to stay away from the topic without ever being given a proper explanation like this makes them curious and can make them confused or vulnerable. I agree that the conversation should start early but in a way that matches the child's age and understanding. It's not just about explaining sex itself but also about teaching children about their bodies consent and making them feel safe enough to speak up if something ever makes them uncomfortable. I agree if parents don't educate their children someone else or the internet will right? Building trust so children know they can always come to their parents with questions is just as important as the information itself. It was an incredible read! Keep it up 🫶🏻
