A Saturday outing and some lovely music to listen to.

I think I finally gave myself a break today—not from work, but because I managed to resolve a household appliance issue. I also took the chance to go out and have some fun without the pressure of cooking at home... specifically, cooking over charcoal.

I love charcoal-grilled food—it’s highly prized in certain restaurants for a reason—so I feel like my kitchen enjoys some "first-world" privileges. The only thing I don't like is getting soot on my hands, though I think I have a knack for dealing with that.

I hit my limit yesterday when the power came back on; I was pacing around the house like a madwoman. I stopped and asked myself, "What the hell am I doing?"

You see, in an effort to improve the situation regarding lighting and such, we’ve been buying a lot of rechargeable gear. Actually, everything is rechargeable, and it’s a real ordeal deciding what’s most important: the rechargeable fan, the portable charger, the LED lights, or the remaining sanity of my fried brain.

A tangle of cables that might only serve to electrocute you! Please find some music that allows you to relax. That’s what I was telling myself while trying to sort out the mess and listening some music.

I already had in mind what I wanted to buy: a really nice flower-shaped power strip with four switches and four USB ports. It was perfect for what I needed. Plus, it was feminine—I love those cute little things—and the price seemed reasonable: 3,500 CUP, which converts to exactly $5.22 USD.

We set off and headed toward the alley—a place consisting simply of a sidewalk lined on one side by several parallel buildings and on the other by houses featuring cafés and all sorts of businesses. I remembered there being that type of multi-charger there, but no—they had already sold out.

We had to go out of our way to find a makeshift hardware shop. And sure enough, they had one—though it was a different model: flimsier, more expensive, and—of course—made in China. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Chinese products, but some of them look like mere toys. In the end, we paid 5,200 CUP—about $7.76—for a seven-port USB 2.0 hub. With the economy the way it is, just leaving the house is becoming a dangerous sport.

Exhausted and relieved to have the problem sorted, we headed to the alleyway and ordered some cheese pizzas. They might not have looked like much, but they were delicious. Someone once asked me if I didn't like street food? Well, here it is.

I loved the decor—simple and fresh. Even though the chairs needed a fresh coat of paint, I found the design fascinating; it reminded me—in some way—of Roman or Greek culture.

That’s where I finally managed to relax, mostly because I loved the music; it was a place with good taste that actually excluded reggaeton.

It’s true, though, that refusing to listen to reggaeton at my age comes with a certain air of exclusivity: "I don't feel like going," "No sugar, please," "My knee hurts," "Let me know in advance," "Maybe next time," "I can't handle that much social life"... basically, you turn into a true vintage classic.

Finally, we went to grab some sweets, and I ate mine so fast that I forgot to take a picture to show you.

We set out for a walk to help digestion while I took photos of the area: a two-story house that always struck me as mysterious, another with a floral design on its exterior, laundry hanging from balconies, a lovely Labrador trying to open the gate to play with me... rooftops covered in solar panels, and people living out the never-ending cycle of life.

It was great to get out today and listen to music across many genres—music that relaxes, motivates, and energizes you, that stirs up memories and makes you wonder if it might be better to go live on Saturn or Pluto.
