The Pain Of A Broken Pledge

Am sure everyone has experienced broken promises before, though it might not be a big thing anyway.
As humans, we are not perfect and it is not all promises we can keep even though we wish to keep them. We probably must have promised someone and broken the promise either way we are human and nothing is certain.

Promising someone is the easiest thing to do, but keeping the promise is the hardest thing to do and that is why it is said that a promise is a debt, so it is better not to promise than to break the promise.

I don't like to promise people because I don't know what will happen in the next minute, but there are certain people I can't say no to, so I might make a promise that will later fail to be fulfilled.

So there is this particular friend of mine I can't run away from, though I love helping him anyway because that's what a friend does. I was expecting a big contract at that time and he came to ask for my help. I didn't think twice before I promised to help him but then I didn't get the contract and he came back to ask for what I promised him.

I couldn't afford what I promised him at that moment, so I told him to calm down and that I would sort it out but as time went on I couldn't keep my promise to him. Meanwhile, he is a very good friend of mine but you know humans generally feel bad when you promise them and you can't fulfill your promise.

I guess he was disappointed in me for not fulfilling my promise so he just overlooked my side and never bothered to ask again. Some months passed and I still couldn't keep my promise so I didn't have a choice but to call him and let him know what was wrong with what I had promised him.

Even with all the explanation the look on his face shows that he doesn't believe me, but I have tried my best to explain anyway though I don't blame him because if I were in his shoes I would do the same but if the person has explained him or herself I will understand.

Meanwhile, it was someone who broke his promise to me that made me break mine too, such is life.
One thing leads to another, so there is no need to get angry with someone for not helping me, the promise I broke made my friend stop trusting me and when there is no trust in friendship there is nothing in there again.

I got another contract after 6 months, and immediately I got it, I fulfilled my promise because I don't like it when someone doubts me, that brings us back a little bit but I am not sure he trusts me again because anytime I say something that has to do with promise he will remind me of the promise I broke which means he doesn't trust my promise again.

I learned from the experience and what I learned was to never promise if you don't have it because what you are expecting might not come for you.

Hahah that is the difference about breaking a promise to certain people, they have this habit of reminding you of past mistakes, its better to not promise than fail to fulfil it in the first place
