Waterfall in long exposure || Cascada en larga exposición
Waterfall in long exposure || Cascada en larga exposición
Greetings photography lovers! Through it we can remember moments and places, but we can also transform reality, and see differently what our physical eyes see, and it's all through the management of light and the settings of our camera.
Long exposure is nothing more than leaving our sensor exposed a little longer than we are used to. Then we can achieve very different images. Today I want to show you some I took in a river I visited a few months ago.
After a hike into the mountains I arrived at this place that I have known for about twenty-five years. I went alone because I didn't remember the way, so I didn't want to risk anyone else. Fortunately I arrived and calmly took several pictures and played with my camera. One of the pictures I had in mind was precisely this waterfall with a long exposure, so that the water looks like a silky curtain, and here it is (f/29, 1/2 s, ISO-100):
I think on the next one I will increase the ISO more to achieve a slower speed. Now, I wanted to try to capture the water practically static. Again, I think if I had used a higher ISO I could have used a faster speed. But hey, here's one of the better ones (f/5, 1/1250 s, ISO-1600):
The visual effect is very different. They seem to generate different sensations. With the first one maybe it reflects a little more peace, tranquility and admiration. Everything seems to be softened and light. With the second one you might get a different feeling. It may reflect more the force of falling water as the volume of water is better shown. With the first one you can say: "How refreshing". With the second one you can say: "What a force". These are only possibilities. Everyone can appreciate the photograph in a different way.
I have been playing this comparison on a few more routes. I liked to do it to admire the beauty of running water. Anyway, it was for things like this that I left the house that morning. There was no one rushing me or slowing me down. It was me and my camera. Here's one more comparison:
The bubbles looked like they were standing still on the water, and I wasn't running anywhere. In contrast, with the long exposure you can see the direction the water is going. Beautiful. Here are a couple more long exposures.
It is very difficult to get these pictures holding the camera with your hands. We need a tripod or place the camera on a surface. So it depends on the risk we want to take, because in my case, I was standing on rocks in the middle of the water current.
I hope you liked these photos. Here are a couple more similar to the ones I showed at the beginning. Which one did you like the most? See you next time!
No había nadie quien me apurara o estuviera demorando.
