Getting in the Spirit {Holiday Classics for the Top 3 Monthly Contest}
Happy December everyone! The @yourtop3 contest is off to the races again with a festive theme to finish out the year. There have been a few awesome entries already, so I'm just putting out my picks as usual to join the fun. My entry isn't valid for the dpoll, but I will donate the post proceeds to the prize pool as the panel always does. Should be a nice holiday gift for the winners again this month!
This topic, like all the others before, has many different angles I could have attacked my choices from. These days if we watch holiday movies they tend to be more on the adult humor side of things, but I still have a HUGE soft spot for my favorites from childhood. Given the fun spirit of the season, I'm letting my inner child take the lead on this one...
This months topic is HOLIDAY MOVIES
My Nominations are:
Nomination Number One
Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas 🥁🪕🎶
My Reasons for the Nomination
This is the one movie that my entire family watches every single year! We are Jim Henson fans through and through, but this sweet little gem holds such a special place in our hearts. Originally it was only aired in a small region, so usually the only people I knew who were familiar with it grew up in the New Jersey/New York/Pennsylvania area like I did. Now I think it has reached a cult status with a growing following decades after the original came out. The Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts has a Jim Henson exhibit that features a few of the main characters, Ma and Emmet Otter.
Obviously compared to the high level of effects these days, this one now seems quaint in comparison. The theme of the movie is one that still resonates, though. I won't give away too much, but it really tugs at your heartstrings in the best way possible. Here's one of the many fun little tunes from the movie...
Nomination Number Two
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer 🦌🎅
My Reasons for the Nomination
Of course this one is a classic that I imagine is high on many lists. It's not Christmas for me without Santa and his reindeer! I don't think I need to share much about the film itself, so I'll return to a more person story that again includes the fantastic Center for Puppetry Arts. When my sister was pregnant with my niece, all three of us sisters went to see the Center's yearly production of Rudolph with puppets. As Yukon was singing about his beloved silver and gold, my niece starting kicking in my sister's belly and I got to feel it for the first time! Shortly after that I saw a Yukon Cornelius stuffed animal that I bought for her, and she still has it today.
She also has her other aunt's Abominable Snowman, otherwise known as "Bumble". The photo above was from her first Christmas. This year as her gift I bought a membership to the Center and all the gals are going to see Rudolph yet again. Can't wait to see what she thinks about seeing it in puppet form in person!
Nomination Number Three
The Year Without a Santa Claus 🤶🎅🎄🎁
My Reasons for the Nomination
Along with Henson, I also have a soft spot for any of the Rankin/Bass holiday productions! This one is another flick that has a timeless sentiment about giving back and supporting those who are constantly giving of themselves. I love that Mrs. Claus has a more prominent role, and the Miser brothers are some of my faves. ;)
What about you? Did you grow up with some of these same ones, or do you have some different ones to add to the list? We'd love to see your choices to add to the poll!

Oh, my word! I know none of those! Lovely memories and associations, Katie.
You've never seen Rudolph?? Wow, I guess where you grow up really does influence holiday movie selection! Emmet Otter doesn't surprise me as that is a little more unique. I think you would appreciate the sentiment of that one, though. It is really sweet.
Emmet Otter sounds lovely. No, I've never seen Rudolph. It could be a combination of where one grows up and a generational thing. Interesting, hey?
Thanks for you tube links..i will check

The only one I recognize is Rudolph! I remember watching that as a kid as well and I am pretty sure my kids watched it as well. May the movie traditions be passed down many generations :P
FS
You've really dug into the Christmas archive for those picks! Brilliant! It's funny, my kids don't much care for watching tv that much (they're of the internet generation after all) but I still hunt down those old Rankin shows every Christmas. Memories!
I think I'm watching more holiday movies this year than I have in a long while because of the contest this month! All so much fun and a great way to keep the holiday spirit alive and well. :)

.Hey @plantstoplanks, here is a little bit of
BEER
from @rentmoney for you. Enjoy it!Well I think I've only seen a snippet of Rudolph as I don't remember that one at all! And the other two are new to me but I love the stories you tell with them and each of your nominations has such a strong connection to a life event! Rudolph = niece :D
There's some heartwarming entries this month hey!
After thinking about it, most of the ones I remember from growing up are most likely specials that might have only aired here in the US! It's funny how things you just consider so popular are really very localized. :) Still lots of fun to share those memories and see what brings out the same kind of spirit from everyone else's youth, as well!
Oh definitely! There are some cult comedy shows that only made it in the UK and didn't reach any further that I loved but the main thing is that the person watching enjoys them as it was made for them!
I enjoy watching The Grinch 😊
That's an excellent one, as well! So many wonderful ones to watch this time of year!
