This months topic is Top 3 Favorite Oscar Winning Movies

I usually do not pay too much attention to these fancy award shows, since most of the nominations for them are chosen by people who work in the film industry. So in my opinion most of the time the movies that win are not really that good, even though they can have great actors in them. From time to time really good movies do win these awards, and here are some of my favorites from the Oscar list.

My Nominations are:

Nomination Number One

Gladiator (2000)

My Reasons for the Nomination

In my opinion Gladiator is probably one of the best Roman Empire themed movies ever made. The plot is great, the music is awesome, the cinematography is exceptional and overall this is just a extraordinary movie with fantastic fighting scenes.
It is loosely based on real events that occurred in the late half of the 2nd century within the Roman Empire, but for the most part it is just historical fiction. If you have not seen this movie yet I highly recommend it!

Nomination Number Two

Braveheart (1995)

My Reasons for the Nomination

This is another great movie about a 13th century Scottish warrior by the name of William Wallace. The plot is a depiction of the life of Wallace leading the Scots in the First War of Scottish Independence against King Edward I of England. Overall this is a great movie with an awesome plot and fantastic brutal battle scenes. The biggest issue with this movie is that even though it is historical fiction, it is filled with historical inaccuracies. It is not anything the average viewer will notice, but things like clothing, the landscape, the names of characters and many more things. It is actually so inaccurate, in 2009 it ranked 2nd place of "most historically inaccurate movies" in The Times newspaper.
Regardless, this is still an awesome movie which I highly recommend!

Nomination Number Three

The Departed (2006)

My Reasons for the Nomination

This is just a straight up awesome gangster movie with a bunch of famous actors. The film takes place in Boston and is about an Irish Mob boss Francis "Frank" Costello and is loosely based on gangster Whitey Bulger. Full of deception, crime and shootouts with police, great movie you should watch if you haven't yet :)

Hope you like my selections! :)

Excellent choices babe! Braveheart was a great one, but I guess it almost goes more fully into the realm of fiction with all of the inaccuracies. Still one of Gibson's best I think. Crazy to look back at how Russell Crowe looked in Gladiator to where he is now. He needs to get back to those gladiator workouts to stay healthy. ;)
