Your Top 3: My Favourite Holiday Movies

avatar

Hey Top 3'rs

So we draw close to the end of another year, another 12 months we made it on this planet so its time to down tools, give thanks, be lazy, be overindulgent and enjoy your time off for it will be another 12 months before we wash rinse and repeat the process once again. I'm not big on Christmas because, well I am an adult. But when I was a kid, obviously this was the most hype time of the year, and I have some pretty great memories of the holiday.

You can't get into the consumerism of the Christmas spirit without watching movies themed and set around around this time, and while 99% is pretty bad, there are a few that stand out for me. They're by no means great movies, but they are memorable non the less.

Home Alone

You can't have a holiday movie marathon as a kid without having Home Alone on your list. All about Eight-year-old Kevin who accidentally left behind when his family leaves for France and has to spend the festive season at home unsupervised. If that's not awesome and at the same time scary things take a turn for Kevin At first as thieves try to break into his house, he has to put up a fight.

Some of the antics in this movie are so over the top you have to love it, I'm sure Micheal Jackson did too.

Jack Frost

Singer Jack Frost dies, leaving behind his young son Charlie. The father and son never spent much time together, and hence Charlie grows up to be an unfortunate young man until Jack returns as a snowman. The movie is equal parts comedy and tragedy and leaves you with an overall sense of how important family is at this time of year, I know, I know predictable. However, it's still a fun watch as Michael Keaton delivers a surprisingly emotional performance in this one.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Jim Carrey and his overacting were made for the part of Grinch as he brings this children's book character to life. Cindy Lou, a six-year-old girl who believes in the spirit of the festival, sets out to reform the Grinch lives in solitude just outside Whoville. A being who hates the townsfolk and despises Christmas. If you're looking for fan slapstick comedy fit for the whole family this movie is the ideal pick.

First entry of the month! Kicking it off with some classics right here. I remember cringing at some of the moments in Home Alone to the point where I almost felt bad for the thieves, haha. I think I saw Jack Frost once, but that's not one in the usual holiday rotation. Might have to break it out again for another go. Of course the holidays aren't complete without a little Grinch in your life. We often watch the cartoon, but Jim Carrey is pretty classic in the live action version!

LOL! When I see what happens to the thieves I always think back to how much Joe Pesci was so mean in goodfellas so then I don’t feel so bad

I haven’t seen any of these movies in ages I must admit and haven’t seen the updated version of the Grinch I refuse to watch reboots they’re normally never as good

All three great entries. I also have Home Alone and maybe everyone will have it, it's such a classic, but I have seen your other two and they're both great! Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Thanks yeah I’m pretty sure Home Alone wins it for most people! The other Christmas movies are a bit too predictable and these put a nice spin on it which is why I chose these 3

Thanks for these awesome suggestions for our contest this month! We've given you an upvote and logged your nominations, ready for the dpoll - keep an eye on our blog for the dpoll post!

Set your post payout to 50/50. You keep the SP and then transfer the STEEM and/or SBD (whichever is paid out at the time) to @yourtop3 with a link to your blog post entry in the transfer memo. This is the minimum entry fee, but you can add as much as you like to it! The more you add, the more you can win. There is no maximum entry fee.

Not sure how to find your post payout? Look in your Steem Wallet under Author Rewards to find the exact payout for your post. In the example below you would send the 0.014 SBD and 6.587 STEEM over to the @yourtop3 account as your entry fee. We’ll take it from there and convert all of the prize pool to SBD for easy prize distribution at the end of the month!

Great choices, they all have their own unique adventure and comedy. They seem to never get old throughout the years :)

Some really good entries here. I think we're going to see a number of repeat entries as we hit the classics. So far haven't seen any Die Hard yet though! I suspect it'll just be a matter of time. :)

Yes!! Home Alone, love it! Made my top 3 for sure! Sadly, I do still react a little bit like Kevin MacAllistair did when I put the aftershave on, my baby face just can't handle it haha!

I'm hoping to relive the other two choices over this next few weeks, can see myself watching a LOT of movies between now and the 25th!

Good luck in the contest, someone surely has to dethrone @rentmoney right? Haha!

LOL! I know that feeling too, I don’t get it as bad anymore but when I first started shaving it would really sting

I have a few series and movies I’d like to catch up on too hoping to get a little down time to go through it all

Lol it better be a Christmas Miracle on the cards and rent money not winning! I don’t care if it’s not me who wins as long as its not him

All joking aside, I think this month will be a close one between many entrants. There's already lots of good entries and I suspect allot more to come. I wish you the best of luck with coming in 2nd LOL !

Oh well in that case, there's no chance for any one else...Unless you've been a bad little boy? We'll just have to see what Saint Nick has in the locker on dpoll results day aka The New Xmas Day 😁

To be honest, I don't think I'll win this month. There's already allot of good entries into this months top3. I look forward to handing out some upvotes to them once my VP increases.

I'm not a great movie-goer, so I have only seen Home Alone. Not being a Jim Carrey fan, I'd have given that one a miss. Jack Frost I shall keep an eye out. Michael Keeton, IMO is underrated as an actor.

Lol I don't think anyone can argue with Home Alone.

I love Jim I think his so talented his ablity to bring a character to life is genius

I agree Michael is highly underrated I think its due to the projects he picked but never the less he puts in some really memorable performances. I loved him in The Founder he was brilliant
