Prompt A Day | Uh-oh Here It Comes...

I have mentioned about this issue since the first confirmed case popped up on the news. I'm referring to the coronavirus scare that was sweeping the world. Here's the latest happening locally...

Today's Word Prompt: Inexorable

Dictionary.com defines...

inexorable

adjective
impossible to stop or prevent.:
"the seemingly inexorable march of new technology".

The latest is that classes in all levels in Metro Manila have been suspended for the rest of this week. The reason? To stop the possible spread of the coronavirus or now better known as covid-19.

You see the first local transmission has now been confirmed. That meant that the patient did not have any travel history at all. I was like... what?!?! It was ironic that this announcement came after I saw a CNN article that reported two people -- one from Taiwan and another from Australia -- who were diagnosed to have had the covid-19 virus upon their return to their respective countries. Both traveled from the Philippines.

When I was reading about this latest development, there were ten confirmed cases. But when I tuned in to the news last night, the number jumped up to twenty!!! Before the night was over, it had become twenty-four. I wonder what I will wake up to.

Question that is foremost on my mind is: Is the spread of covid-19 inexorable?

To be honest, I was hoping that local authorities could prevent it at the onset. I must say some folks do not seem to take this matter seriously. Now it's here. Now what? We're so glad that we have already finished our travel vacation to Cambodia. It has now been two weeks since we came home.

Idiom of the Day: fingers crossed

Fingers crossed is a phrase one uses to express the hope that something comes to pass, or that someone is blessed with good luck. The phrase fingers crossed comes from the very physical act of crossing one's middle finger over one's index finger, signifying one's hope for good luck.

What I can say right now is, fingers crossed that no lockdown will be necessary, and that everyone in my family and neighborhood will be safe from the spread of covid-19.
