Day 857: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: you need help

While at a meeting about the celebrations of life and the motorcades related to that, Rev. Obsidian Stone received a phone call from Mayor Garner that surprised him greatly.

This call had been proceeded by another phone call that had surprised Mayor Garner, from Mrs. Selene Slocum-Lofton.

“I have been thinking about the situations at hand,” she had said, “and I have felt led to put the entire of Cedar Court to the use of the families of those servants who perished in the fires.”

“The whole court? I mean – thank you to you and your entire family –.”

“Forget my family. They are completely against it, but guess who owns the deeds to all the property on on Cedar Court?”

“What? I mean – thank you!”

“Let whoever is handling the ceremonies know: Cedar Court is available on any day or any days that the families need.”

Thus Mayor Garner was able to call Rev. Stone, and let him know that one major property owner had made all of their lots available for all the families to come up, and that he would make sure that the other property owners made their sites available for the families to visit on whatever days were selected.

“We need all of next week, Mr. Mayor, starting on Monday.”

“Done.”

And that was that. The standoff was over. The motorcades would still occur and the show of force would be massive, but no more “lockdowns” would occur.

After Mayor Garner got off the phone, he locked the door to his office and got down on his knees. That morning, he and his cousin Captain H.F. Lee had been on the phone for two hours, and the last thing Captain Lee had said before going to work at police headquarters was this:

“God knows you need help, D.L. We've been telling Him the situation. God is not a Father Who holds grudges. You messed up for 20 years, but you have repented. God is not going to wait 20 years to help you do what you need to do now – He knows you need help with this situation. He will make things happen for you. Just watch. I know Him, D.L. – He never fails to move when you put all of your trust in Him for what you need!”

Mayor Garner got down on his knees, and burst into tears.

“Father in Heaven, I've been so afraid that I messed up and ignored You for so long … I was afraid You wouldn't help me … I know if someone disrespected me that long, I wouldn't lift a finger for them … thank You for being better than me! Thank You for meeting my needs! Now I can give respect back to these families, and maybe we can work together to get past all that has happened in Big Loft! Thank You – in Jesus' mighty name, thank You!”
