Wednesday Walk Janes Carousel and make me smile post

This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Try to limit yourself to a set distance or time from the starting location, say 5 Blocks, 5 Minutes walk or whatever and see what you can find in that short distance

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all.

Following me and resteeming the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion, but you may have a better chance of receiving a Steem Basic Income Share if you do.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk, plus I will be sending @steembasicincomeshares to a selection of those who participate.

Actifit

A good App that works well in conjunction with the Wednesday Walk or any day walk is @actifit, which rewards you with Actifit Tokens and Steemit Upvotes, if you use the app to track your steps and do a post of your actifit total each day.

If you do a lot of activity I do recommend you check it out

Make me Smile Collaboration

As I mentioned above Wednesday Walk is collaborating with the [Make Me Smile] hosted by @elizacheng,
On the third Wednesday of the month out two challenges will collaborate so if you combine the two into one post you have double the fun

Here are the rules for her challenge

Your post can be writing, singing, video, poem, drawing, photography etc.... the most important part is your post Make me" smile, Remember, the ME is whoever read/view/listen to your post and this includes YOURSELF.
b. Your content must be ORIGINAL CONTENT

c. Please include at least 50 Words in your post

So the collaboration giveaway is as follows
As well as the SBI shares normally given away from the Wednesday Walk and Make me Smile Challenge, we will send one SBI Share each to one lucky winner who joins both challenges in one post

Janes Carousel

First off I will admit that this post was not from today and never is since I share my Walk post at 7AM on a Wednesday but I do normally try to share shots from the previous week, but this last week although I have been getting my daily walks in I haven't taken many shots for a post so these shots are from a few weeks ago and will Focus on Janes Carousel on Brooklyn.

And to make it a walk let me start with a shot of the Carousel and Brooklyn bridge in the distance and then walk closer to it

Here I am a bit closer to it, as you can see it was closed at the time, well times I have visited it since most of my walks in Brooklyn have been in the early morning, probably the best time in some ways for me to take photos of it, me being not quite as young as I would like to think I am, taking photos of it when open with young children riding it may not be a good idea these days

A little history on the carousel from Wikipedia

Jane's Carousel (formerly Idora Park Merry-Go-Round) is a carved, wooden, 48-horse carousel that was built in 1922 for the Idora Park amusement park in Youngstown, Ohio by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company.[2] It was carved by John Zalar and Frank Carretta, each of whom are attributed with carvings on carousels constructed by PTC and other carousel companies like Looff.[4] The carousel has 30 "jumpers," 18 "standers," two chariots, and a Gebrüder Bruder Band Organ that provides the carousel’s music. Jane's Carousel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on February 6, 1975, the first carousel to receive such designation.[2][3] The merry-go-round is not currently listed in the NRHP database, having been delisted (having its listing status changed to "RN") on October 29, 1985.[5]

< When Idora Park closed to the public in 1984, the carousel was bought at auction by Jane and David Walentas and moved to Brooklyn, New York, for restoration.[2][6] It was opened to the public at its new location in Brooklyn Bridge Park on the East River in Brooklyn on September 16, 2011.[2] The building commissioned by the Walentas to house the carousel was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel.

Now looking in through the perspex covering

Weekly giveaway of shares

I am sending Steem Basic Income shares to 4 people selected through a random draw so on the weekend I sent shares to all people who joined in last weeks Wednesday walk. @joanstewart, @kaminchan, @balticbadger, @iamraincrystal, And @elizacheng will send one SBI share to @ellenripley,

As @elizacheng and I collaborated with our Wednesday Walk and Make me Smile Challenges

And one person is randomly drawn who joins both challenges to receive and SBI share from me and this week it is @TBA

I would love to be able to give everyone who joins a Steem Basic Income share, but I don't make enough steem each week to do so, but I will try and share them around fairly between those that join the challenge

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

Your photos are fantastic! Seeing the carousel reminds me of earlier days when my daughter used to enjoy it a lot 😁😁 she's all grown up now but still likes the carousel I guess. Oh and thank you for your generosity 😉👍

That is cool that it is enclosed to protect it. I hear about not wanting to take pictures of it while kids are on it! Parents are nuts these days.

Yeah I think enclosing it is a great idea, and yes some parents can be nuts for sure and one has to be careful

Lovely photos and history Jay my friend. I don't think I've ever
Ridden on one of those, though I'm sure some of the small
Carnival type things that once came around when I was
Young had them. Amazing details indeed. Well done

This carousel would be a highlight to see, brilliant detail of a working toy, grand old age from 1922.

It does not surprise me that someone found the beauty in design to restore, excellent idea to house in perspex another good strong purpose made material manufactured used, (not seen so often anymore).

How awesome to hear it with the music and children's laughter, enjoying the moment, I have never seen one this grand.

Love the photos Jay and even closed up, it is still very pretty!! Carousels have almost a magical feel about them. Felt that way as a kid and still do. I can almost hear the carousel music as I'm writing this..lol. 😉 🎠

@tattoodjay I wish I knew about this when I went to NYC, it must be a sight to see in person. I love the pictures you took of it, even at my age I would love to ride it.

The carousel is cool, but I love that cityscape shot the most! And thanks for sharing the "make me smile" challenge - what an awesome idea! We need more of that around here and in the world in general!

Thanks and I do agree and thats why. Decided to collaborate with @elizacheng and her make me smile challenge, there is to much anger in the world these days anything that promotes positivity and smiling is a good thing in my opinion

I loved these photos of this of the Janes Carousel, the one with the Brooklyn Bridge on the background, the closer shot where and how the sunshine lights up the entire Carousel, brightening it up and make it come to life, the closeup of the horse, but most especially the last photo of Lady Liberty being pulled by the American Eagle... these two figures are my favorite designs in coins because they are so iconic of America. It pleasantly surprised me that they are depicted in this ride! Thanks for sharing these photos, my friend, @tattoodjay! Take care.🥰🌺🤙

That is a gorgeous carousel... I have seen some like these but not enclosed like this - is there known vandalism for them to close it up like that? A pity... Guess it is good to be protected now.

I think being by the water it may be to protect from the Weather and possibly as you say from vandals

How good to go for a walk sometimes, where a smile as a child appears on the face and all the worries you forget)

Wow, that carousel is amazing! I know I've probably seen it a bazillion times in movies and shows, but can't for the life of me place a single one (although John Wick keeps popping into my brain). The closeups are great, but I especially like your first distant shot.

Here's my contribution for this week -

Real wooden figures. Now it is a rarity. Everywhere plastic and chemistry. Well done, that saved such a wealth.
It seems that I began to grow old completely)) I missed a walk on Wednesday... Have to make up for lost time :-))
