That Time of the Year

#WednesdayWalk is a challenge started by @tattoodjay, The idea is to get out for a short walk, and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, it’s that time of the year again. The time when the retailers convince you to buy presents with money you don’t have to impress people you don’t like. After all, it is the season of giving, and gifting. And the malls, they play the music to induce you to spend, and spend without thinking.
They didn’t fool me, though. Oh no, not me.
Anyhow, I was out for dinner with a friend in the heart of the city, and of course, the whole street is decorated with lights - another way of inducing the festive mood in you. All the malls were playing more less the same music, and everywhere I turn, I see people with bags and bags of stuff. They all seem jolly enough. Well, wait till they see their credit card bills. Then they won't be so jolly anymore.
But I digressed. After dinner, my friend and I decided to take a walk along the busy, and also, most expensive street / road in Singapore – Orchard Road.
Here are some pictures of the lights and decorations along the road. The decos and designs are different every year. Some years, they are quite impressive, and some years not so great. This year's is all right, I suppose - not too tacky, but certainly not the best. But then again, to each his own. I can't even remember what last year's was like.
And it snowed in the heart of the city. Artificial snow, of course.
Penguins - a long way from their habitat.
Thank you @tattoodjay. Everything is so commercialized it is all rather meaningless.
Keep warm. I hope the snow is not too bad. 😊
My pleasure to join Wednesday Walk - as always. 😊
I do agree and thats why I personally enjoy the more subtle and appropriate ones myself
I had a rough night last night with this cold getting worse and going into my throat and chest so with it snowing here today I worked from home and staying warm
Sorry to hear that you are feeling poorly. Take it easy, and get well soon. Lots of liquid and rest should do the trick. They say eating lots of garlic helps too. 😊
That looks very festive. Do people decorate their houses too? We have a neighbor whose house looks like it could be on one of those TV contest shows. We're always tempted to just put a sign on our lawn with an arrow towards his house that just says "ditto." :-)
People do not decorate like folks in the US. At best there is a fake tree with decorations and presents underneath...
Hi Jon. Yes. People who celebrate Christmas do decorate their homes - some more than others, like you and your neighbour. 😊 But as @sinlg said, not to the extend like those in the US. 😊
I guess I am the Scrooge. The video is just some artificial snow. Takes up too much time for a busy man like you. 😊
I watched the video but it looked like recording the high wind conditions, oh is that what that was supposed to be? lol. That's pretty cool though, that they have a snow machine there even if it's fake. I like Scrooge. Since we don't have kids around we don't even pay attention to Christmas these days.
Welcome to the non-Christmas club? lol...the holiday is beautiful in it's meaning but the meaning is lost in all the insanity and materialism.
Yeah but not for us, we're smarter than that, we don't waste our time and money going crazy looking for gifts! And worse yet, people go way into debt every year just buying junk for people!
