Wednesday Walk

Here are some pictures I took at the new fish house. The ocean boats put their fish in vats. This is a vat of Spanish Mackerel
as the workers are packaging the mackerel they separate the sizes, these are large
When the river fishermen come in, they weigh their fish then put them in these totes and cover in ice. The fish house workers will sort them and package the fish in 50-pound boxes to ship to markets.
Other than driving across town the only other thing I dislike about this fish house is you have to shovel your ice out of vats and if you are like me with a bad back it is very difficult. This is my husband getting ice.
This is a sea robin I caught a few days ago.
I caught this little pompano in my sandflea rake. A month ago they were the size of a quarter. See his eyes looking down? This means he was looking for food on the bottom. If you look at a fishes eyes when you catch them, it will tell you where they are looking in the water column. It takes a bit for their eyes to adjust.
This is all the sandfleas that I caught, not worth the time or energy I put into it. One days bait.

It’s good you have a new fish house to take your catch for the day. I see it would be important to keep them fresh with the ice. Nice your hubby was there to shovel ice on your fish.
@redheadpei as soon as we catch the fish they go on ice and are kept iced all day, when we get to the fish house we take them off the ice to weigh them then they go in a tote with ice in the bottom and then ice on top of them. True fishermen take pride in keeping their fish in good shape.

@fredkese it is on its way, lol. at the price we are getting I might as well give them away. Price to us has dropped 2.25 for pompano the guys that caught the mackerel did not get paid yet. But the price to the consumer never goes down.
Hope they get paid soon. It's quite expensive here

@fredkese they will get paid but who knows what the amount will be. When the price fishermen get goes down the price to people who buy fish stays the same. It should go down, too.
