Wednesday Walk with the wonderful @tattoodjay

Wednesday Walk

One of the first things I notice when I leave the house to go out on my walk is this sign that fall is on the way. The oak trees are dropping acorns. I had a delivery person ask if they would grow if she planted them and I assured her that some of them would. She gathered up several to take home and plant. The chipmunks and squirrels won't miss them. There are so many coming down that crossing my yard is like walking on ball bearings!

The front yard flowers are fading fast. More signs that fall is on the way.

The touch-me-nots/jewel weed are blooming along the edge of the road, The deer have left a few blossoms for the hummingbirds. They both love this plant.

I did notice a few bugs and bees...

My #lookingup photo is of this big old dead ash tree that the emerald ash borders have killed. The tree cutter guys are in the neighborhood. I could hear their chainsaws. This is one of three trees in my yard that have been flagged for them to cut down because it would be a danger to the house if it fell.

I have the same here, Melinda, with the blooms fading. Summer is flying by too fast.
Lovely shots and I like the ones of the bugs.
Sorry to see you losing trees but better down than falling on your house.

Those borders were devasting and rapidly killed so many ash trees in this part of the state. A good lesson to remind towns to diversify their tree plantings.

Yes we are starting to see signs of the change of season here as well, and I am OK with it taking its time
What lovely shots I really love that first one a simple acorn looking so stunning

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

Thanks! I love the texture of the hats the acorns wear. The tree service guys must be getting closer. Their saws sound much louder.

They do have such an awesome hat or is it a crown?

I've read that jewel weed somehow counteracts the effects of poison ivy on the skin.

I did know that, but am not allergic to poison ivy so I have never had a reason to try it. The two grow side by side in my woods.

¡Muchas gracias! Los insectos son tan necesarios para mantener el bosque saludable. ¡Sin insectos para comer no tendríamos pájaros!

Lovely images Melinda dear.... the shots are amazing! I gope they get rid of that dead tree so as not to endangered anyone as well as your house. Good luck!

They just left and they cleared out 3 dead ash trees. More room now for healthy trees to grow!

Your macro photos are just exquisite, @melinda010100! I've noticed the abundance of acorns as well, and yesterday when heading to an appointment with my eldest, I noticed little bits of yellow tinting some of the green leaves along the highway. I have to say, I much prefer the sight of the yellow jewelweed you captured, which I can't stop staring at!

I hope the tree cutter guys get the ash tree down without too much fuss and muss. Happy Wednesday to you as well!

Thank you! The tree service just left and it was fascinating to watch them work. They were truly masters of their craft. Every chunk of those trees landed exactly where they intended it to go. I can hardly tell that they were here.

Our landlords had some tree guys out here a few years ago, so I know what you mean, and I agree - they were fascinating to watch! Somewhere I have some pictures of them working... I might have to find them and do up a post... 😊

I did take a few photos, but suspect that my tree guys were not very picturesque! I would love to see yours.

Happy Wednesday, and thank you for sharing those amazing photos, @melind010100. Perhaps someday, I will learn to take better photos, even with just my iphone.

Thank you! Early on, when I first started taking photos someone told me that if you think you are close enough, get closer. Often that has proved to be good advice for me

My first view of an acorn. I have never seen them before. And as usual, nice photos.

I think mine are white oaks and there are many in the neighborhood that are well over a hundred years old. Lots of acorns sprout and become little trees but for whatever reason they don't seem to survive the first few years.

Only the fittest survived. 😊 Thanks for the information.

Some lovely bug photography, up close and personal Melinda.

Always safest to remove old trees to make way for new or healthier trees to spread their branches out further.

What a pretty flower you have captured here!

Yeah. I am envious. But, I do love the changing seasons, I just wish winter did not last as long as it does.

Great collection of bugs Melinda!!! The Japanese Beetle is eating everything. My neighbours including my landlord had to get bags with something that attacks them in and kills them.

It works best to go out every morning and knock the Japanese Beetles off into a bucket of soapy water... that way you don't risk poisoning the good insects. I have not had very many, but the ones I do see get squished.

WInter is definitely on the way. I'm surprised that your squirrel friends haven't gathered all the acorns up already. It must not get as cold there as it does in Minnesota. The one good thing about that brutal winter we had is that it seems to have wiped out the Emerald Ash Borers in much of the state.

I still have two ash trees near the house that are holding on, but the tree service was here this week and cut three dead ones in my front yard. I have lost several of them and they have left a lot of holes.

These huge old oaks drop a lot of acorns and the neighborhood is full of oak and hickory. We have well fed rodents!
