Wednesday Walk - Art Trail

I nipped into my local town to follow part of the town's Art Trail. The project was set up by the local council using European funding. Firstly, I walked to the sleeping puppy. It's the biggest pooch I've ever seen! The sculpture lays on a gold box and is subtly lit at dusk. It is close to the Theatre Yard which was once known as The Kennels. I think a dog kennel used to be in this area as well, many, many years ago.

There is a series of gloved hands which hold various items relating to nearby shops. There used to be a glove maker in the yard but I think it was before my time.

The light bulb in a magician's gloved hand, refers to the fact that Chesterfield was one of the first towns in England to have electric light. I'm glad we are first at something!

The falcon sculpture is placed in, wait for it .... Falcon Yard!

Unfortunately, the wooden bumble bee sculpture that resides in the church yard has had a cigarette stubbed out on it and it caught fire. How can people be so stupid? Thankfully, they think it can be saved.

At the other end of town, I found the Curved Reclining Form (Rosewall) by Barbara Hepworth near the post office. It has been here since the 60s. At the time, nobody really knew what it was. We weren't really into art back then but when the Royal Mail tried to sell it, a campaign was launched to keep it in the town. I think everyone has become fond of it over the years.

The Disk Sculpture, called Poise by Angela Conner is situated in the gardens at the back of the Royal Mail building.

There's a few more art pieces in town but the heat got to me, so I went home to cool off.
