A walk around ThonBuri Railway Station and Rail Graveyard.

avatar

A few weeks back i was in the ThonBuri area of Bangkok city and visited the RotFai Markets in ThonBuri district today i decided to go back there as i wanted to inspect the railway station in more detail and also i heard there was a graveyard of old trains nearby the station so i thought i would make a day of this tour around the railway station.

ThonBuri railway station is right opposite RotFai wholesale market one of the biggest wholesale markets in Bangkok very convenient for buyers and farmers to have there products dropped of here from the north.

From this station the trains will take you all the way up north of Thailand to Chiang Mai a distance of 700kms taking about 14 to 16 hours depending on delays of course there are many stops in between before it gets out of Bangkok city.

Despite the lengthy time it takes to get from Bangkok to Chiang Mai it is a very popular amongst tourist why because it is not only cheaper but you get the opportunity to experience some of Thailand’s wonderful scenery along the way. I once did a 16 hour train to the south of Thailand it was absolutely eye opening and amazing.

Reading the schedules at the train station it was saying there are usually around 6 trains a day from Bangkok to Chiang Mai you can choose 3 classes of seats from no air-con cabin to air-con cabin and to air-con and sleeper cabin costing you from $25 to $60 US one way trip.

While wandering around ThonBuri station the 4201 train was just pulling up into the station after a long journey coming back from the north of Chiang Mai ,i was just thinking how those Thai passengers were feeling after a 16 hour trip with no air-con because most Thai's will travel that way as most can't afford the upgrade 🤔

Thon%20Buri%20Railway%20Sation%20-%20June%202020%20-%20Samsung%20A9%20940.jpg

I got to say there were not many passengers getting off i think still due to this covid-19 there still aren't many people traveling also there are no tourist in the country at the moment sadly for the country.

The luxury Tuk-Tuk was at the station to take you're sore ass home if you were traveling in the lower class 😂

Thon%20Buri%20Railway%20Sation%20-%20June%202020%20-%20Samsung%20A9%20837.jpg

This train driver was in charge of hooking up the train carriages and changing them to there require departure line i was enjoying hearing the sounds of his roaring twin V12 diesel engines.

Thon%20Buri%20Railway%20Sation%20-%20June%202020%20-%20Samsung%20A9%20968.jpg

So after the excitement of seeing these huge powerful roaring machines i headed over were the supposedly train graveyard was hidden over the other side of ThonBuri Station in the tall scrub fighting my way through hopping that no snakes come out to surprise me i made it over the other side quite safely.

Thon%20Buri%20Railway%20Sation%20-%20June%202020%20-%20Samsung%20A9%20806.jpg

There were many old run down carriages in this graveyard but unfortunately did not see any old steam trains , i would most probably think they were in some museum some where in Bangkok would be silly to leave them out here to rust away but in any case still interesting to see these old carriages.

I love this!!! Those are such cool shots of the train in the first few shots and the tracks!

You have an excellent eye for awesome compositions! I love all the information you provided as I am going through the pictures. You covered every angle, everything anyone would want to know about traveling. I was surprised at how reasonable the price was for a sleeping car!! Imagine here for the same trip, the car is over $1,000 per person. Yikes.

From the train drivers that hook them up to the boneyard (graveyard) of the no longer used, right down to the extravagant tuk-tuk... you put together an explosively awesome post!

Thank you so much for taking us along with you! This was very much a wonderful adventure! Thank you so much for taking the time to join the challenge! I appreciate the love and support you are giving to #MarketFriday! And you always take me somewhere awesome! You make any day an adventure! It is people such as yourself that made it into such a successful challenge! Thank you again for being a part of all this! If anyone reading this is wondering how to do it.

Thank you @dswigle so happy you enjoyed this tour i do try and put as much detail for some one who might be traveling this way it does give them a good sense of what they will be in for and yeah if i was backpacking this country i would be riding them trains all around the countryside at them prices with $1,000 US you could go around Thailand on trains twice...lol 😊

And that Tuk-Tuk was one of the best i have seen in Thailand so far very neatly done 👍

Thank you for your always awesome comments you always put a smile on my face 😊
