ARCHIVING MY OLD CAMERAS BEFORE SAYING GOODBYE

Yes indeed, another archiving project running concurrently to the other ones. I am currently archiving my audio tapes by converting them into MP3 format. I'm also doing all my slide (photographic) film, having already done the negative ones, by scanning them. I've actually followed a DIY video and built my own scanning device for that purpose.

This will be a series of short videos showing the camera and perhaps one or two photos I took with it so that I can look back at them and remember the good old days :). These cameras will all be going off to charity once I'm done.

I was going to sell them on eBay, like I've done in the past, but I realised that actually I could probably make more money (in the long run) by creating these videos and monetising them. That way I don't have to hold on to them as inventory waiting for them to sell on eBay. I also don't have to deal with the headache of postage and returns.

I am uploading them to my Old Cameras channel on YouTube, which I hadn't touched for a while. I forgot how engaged the audience on that channel is. I'm already replying to dozens of messages.

Concerning minimalism, I find that archiving physical things digitally like this usually helps with the detachment required to get rid of the hoard :)

Ade.

That's a neat little camera. It's easy to get hung up on hanging on to objects that will literally just gather dust. I am working on getting rid of stuff that I kept 'just in case', but have not touched in years. I will keep a few things to decorate my study.

It's so hard to let go. Our local recycling centre recently opened back up and I drove a whole car load of stuff there. Some of the things I got rid of, I just decided not to look through haha.

I've heard people talk about sealing boxes of stuff and if you don't open it for a year then it has to go. I talk as someone who has a lot of boxes around him, but I don't think I'm a problem hoarder. I can find stuff and am not struggling to get around the house like some I've seen.

Some old phones went out for collection last week as they are no good to anyone. Even charities wouldn't want them.

I have some of those phones too. I even have the first mobile I ever bought; the Motorola Flair haha. It still works if I charge the battery but it can't connect to any networks anymore. I suppose they can be recycled. There are some precious metals in them I think.
