Fails of the Urban Explorer: Derelict Bradford

avatar

Here’s a compilation of miscellaneous failures, ALL in Bradford during the latter part of 2019.

I like to post these as later I may return to them to find access is now available as the ‘demolition teams’ may have visited.

6_IMG_0202_6.jpg

Demolition Teams Definition’: Vandals who break windows, doors and create access points that were previously unavailable.

While I condone such actions, if they create a way in for me then who am to leave on the grounds of morality?

You have to think that most access points are created by these kinds of people at some point unless your target is ruinous.

RedLine.png

The Waggon & Horses

According to local geographical expert @goblinknackers, The Waggon & Horses is located in a particularly shitty area of Bradford, and I was fully expecting to gain access having viewed a YouTube video from some other explorers.

5_IMG_0201_5.jpg

We parked not exactly outside the location and noticed another car nearby with the occupants inside.

1_IMG_0197_1.jpg

They were giving us dodgy looks as we approached the old decaying pub, which we pointedly ignored.

3_IMG_0199_3.jpg

4_IMG_0200_4.jpg

The back door was jammed, and the smashed window holds a reflection of yours truly taking this shot.

2_IMG_0198_2.jpg

I’m quite sure the cellar, now containing a brand new lock was the original access point. A shame as there appeared to be lots of relics in this one.

RedLine.png

The Houses

This emphasises what some parts of this of this city are really like. A derelict mess that should be demolished.

3_IMG_9413_3.jpg

There was no way into these as the bottom levels had been filled with concrete but I can imagine this was not always the case.

2_IMG_9412_2.jpg

Stuck on the side was this poster. It's not the only one I have seen, they appear to be stuck all over the city.

1_IMG_9411_1.jpg

Need I say more, this is the city of needles and some truly terrible looking buildings.

RedLine.png

The Revolution Bar

According to @goblinknackers, this bar has been open until quite recently, with the aforementioned person having haunted it once or twice.

6_IMG_9410_6.jpg

We had a good look around but found no access points.

5_IMG_9409_5.jpg

The window looked a possible way in but there was something else on the other side blocking our way.

2_IMG_9405_2.jpg

...'the smackheads must congregate around this area'...

This place has quite a history, this piece of news being disturbing.

4_IMG_9408_4.jpg

Members of the public who were standing outside these fire doors were shocked when they saw the deceased was effectively being used as a battering ram to open the fire doors.

1_IMG_9404_1.jpg

While Bradford is an Urban Explorers’ dream, it’s nightlife probably isn’t for me.

RedLine.png

Provident Financial

Being someone interested in the stock market, I heard about the difficulties this company was having, and it’s evident the building is no longer in use.

2_IMG_9386_2.jpg

A takeover bid failed in 2019, and so this quite hideous looking building has now been abandoned.

1_IMG_9385_1.jpg

Or has it?

4_IMG_9388_4.jpg

...'I wouldnt have liked to work here when it was open, talk about grey and depressing'...

We saw evidence of people inside and lights on in some rooms, so maybe something is going on.

3_IMG_9387_3.jpg

5_IMG_9389_5.jpg

The disuse of the car park and all the crap that has gathered on the grounds told us that few people have trodden on these grounds recently.

9_IMG_9393_9.jpg

8_IMG_9392_8.jpg

7_IMG_9391_7.jpg

I was quite sure the cameras were no longer working but once again, it seemed to be quite sealed up.

RedLine.png

Sometimes you find you’re a little too late and that chance to explore has gone forever. Bah!

2_IMG_0392_2.jpg

And lastly, what do you do if you see an apparently empty building that has the lock missing such as this one?

We leveraged the lock back and peered inside. It was empty as we suspected but going in would prove a huge risk.

1_IMG_0272_1.jpg

Why? Because some bastard can come along and lock us in! We absconded due to this reason, the other one being a local smackhead was loitering around.

I wouldn't put it past him to lock us in just for some laughs.

There's probably still more to see though I'm trying to convince @goblinknackers to do Halifax or Leeds. He's moaning that Halifax is full of old mills and little else.

He may have a point, some of them do get dull and very samey. I have an unwritten one to post about just that.

Maybe you should try Gallifrey? I've heard that's a Wasteland.

I wonder how their careers panned out, can you imagine the CV.

  • Used dead guy as a battering ram.
  • Helped murder an impatient drinker.

This happened in 2006 and the place stayed open. How the hell did that happen?

You would at least expect it to close immediately. Quite mental. The bouncers are probably in quite the demand.

They could have been hired by the prison community, I hear it's bad in there, though they may well be inside now.

Are all these places in the same neighbourhood? Some of the buildings have a nice architecture. Shame that they were left to decay.

They are all within a few miles of each other. It's the north of England.. just about here..

Use anything but Steemit, most dapps allow more.

That is a pretty hefty lock on those cellar doors. It looks like one of those types that you can't cut with bolt cutters. Nice shots. Pity these didn't turn out the way you had hoped. The overgrown stairs from the carpark in that one shot is crazy!

We did poke our noses in there and @goblinknackers went a little ways inside.

The smackhead was loitering around yet another Urbex, named DeathTrap Mill that I'll be writing up soon.. a den of druggies.

Maybe I'm paranoid but I'm sure he saw us open the door.

Yeah, it is better to be safe than sorry with those druggies.

The very first place looked from the outside that it could be restored. However that might be more than having a new one built.
