Can you imagine a world where women play men's roles and men play women's roles? Well, in this movie 'Je ne suis pas un homme facile' (I am not an easy man) you will find this alternate reality that for some would be both absurd and funny, depending on one's point of view. This film goes from being a romantic comedy to a social satire with quite serious steps.

Je ne suis pas un homme facile, is a French film streamed by the streaming service Netflix, directed and made by Eleonore Pourriat and starring Vincent Elbaz and Marie-Sophie Ferdane, the film began as a short film uploaded to Youtube that talked about this same reality, but some time later, Netflix, took up the project giving the possibility to its director to create a feature film with the same theme and name, releasing the film in 2018.

The story is about Damien (Vincent Elbaz), a shameless chauvinist who sees no harm in openly making sexual advances to women or making obscene comments, but everything changes when he suddenly hits his head on a pole and, upon waking up, finds himself in a world dominated by women.

Here we can see in the first instance that it is women who hold the best positions in this society, they are the bosses, successful, they are the head of large companies with a "hembrist" attitude against men, who are belittled, sexualized, occupied for moments of need by women, and within this world they only serve to serve both at work and at home.

Damien, being a macho man all his life, finds himself frightened in a world where he has to use certain tactics, considered "feminine" in order to stand out, trying to adapt to this strange reality dominated by women. Soon, he meets Alexandra (Marie-Sophie Ferdane), a famous writer who would be considered Damien's namesake in this new world, she is an attractive, intelligent and promiscuous woman, who only uses trickery to deceive men and sleep with them, trying to use the same tactics with Damien, but Damien, seeing that Alexandra is just like him, tries to reverse things at all costs.

The film fails in one rather crucial aspect, and that is in the acting of the roles. I concede the point to several criticisms I have read that women could be the dominant ones by being women and not acting like men. In this world, women do not shave, wear masculine clothes, are scruffy and do not make use of makeup, on the contrary, men act almost just like women, wear tight clothes; almost feminine, shave their hair, since in this "Heteromatriarch" world dominated by women: "A man who looks like a woman is not an attractive man".

In my opinion, I agree that such reality could remain without that change of role attitude, where women could continue acting as women and vice versa, for many the feminine vision of the author was not appropriate but I think that was not the intention.

Other aspects to highlight is the society itself, as we observe, we can notice that men occupy jobs generally occupied by women, such as housewives, prostitution, erotic dances in bars or big clubs; quite exaggerated semblances in a hierarchical society, where the dominant gender coerces men to act as they are. Damien begins to see things from a macho point of view, being disturbed by a society that is much more oppressive than its parallel.

In one part we can appreciate that the roles are stuck when it comes to LGBT+ communities, where women act as women and men as men, a rather extremist aspect by the producers, being this very absurd in my opinion; as if gay men or women in general act the opposite way to their sex just for being gay, but I think the director tried to use this point to expand more the protagonist's mind about gender roles.

The film is far from being a romantic comedy, being in reality a social satire, where the basic argument, which is always present in a very noticeable way, is a criticism of society and the hierarchically established order, in this case, headed by women, who establish the parameters that men must follow for the taste of the dominant gender.

The movements that we know today, we can see them strongly highlighted in the film, such as the "masculinist" movement, homonymous to the feminist movement, who fight for the rights of men in a world dominated by women. There we can see that Damien, begins to impart his macho ideas to raise awareness about disturbing female oppression.

The relationship that is born between Alexandra and Damien is actually a power struggle. Alexandra is the typical promiscuous woman who is always in control of all her relationships, and when she comes across Damien and his macho ideas, she is frightened, but she looks at him with interest, as she assures him that his ideals can be her salvation and be able to write her next book. From there begins a strong manipulation, ending with an abrupt ending that has no conclusion for this story.

Anyway, I am not an easy man, is an entertaining satire that if you watch it carefully, you realize its critical level, it has its moments of comedy both at the beginning and at the end, but they are ephemeral, maybe it's because I don't understand French humor but the film seemed to me very serious to be a comedy, however, it is quite interesting. I give it a rating of 8/10 leaving it on my list of movies I would watch again.
