Follow Friday: Listen to the music

(Edited)

Today happens to be BBC Radio 6 Music T-Shirt Day that encourages people to wear a band shirt to work. Not everyone can do that, but we have dress-down Friday where I work, so I was able to wear my Big Big Train shirt. This was on my way home.

I thought it was apt to include some musical people on my #FollowFriday post. In music news I see Neil Young has left Facebook. Maybe he would be interested in joining Steem. His fans probably outnumber our users.

I think music does not get enough recognition on Steem. I can scroll for ages on the trending page before I find a music post. Music, like other art, can take a lot of time and effort to produce and give a lot more value than a simple post. These are songs I have listened to hundreds of times. If we want artists to use Steem then we need to how they are appreciated.

  • I would not be surprised if @hockney is wearing a band shirt today as he has hundreds and features them in his Shirt on Sunday posts. He is not into putting out his own music, but he is involved in his local music scene.
  • @markshepard is a fine musician and songwriter. He makes some great videos of his songs. Some of these make a few dollars, but his infrequency of posting probably reflects the effort that goes into them.
  • Much more prolific are @soundlegion and @wav-dr who are posting music on Steem almost daily and have been for some time.
  • @bakingjazzpower is fairly new to Steem, but is putting out some fine jazz tunes.
  • @verhp11 is a bass player from the Netherlands with a broad range of interests.
  • I must do an entry for the @sonicgroovelive contest. I got out of the habit of doing videos when the Open Mic ended. I just found a fine version of Tico Tico by @kantos that was entered last week.

I hope you find some music to enjoy amongst these. Leave them a vote and preferably a comment too. People love to get feedback on what they are doing and Steem is supposed to be social as well as rewarding.

Rock on!

Nice picks! I am going to have to check out @bakingjazzpower. I usually have jazz music playing the background of my office pretty much every day I am at work. It is one of my favorite styles of music. That is cool that you get to wear shirts like that on Friday's. We get to wear jeans, but we still have to try and wear something with our school mascot on it.

It's fairly relaxed at work and some people wear jeans all week, but I try to be a bit smarter on other days. I still don't wear a tie and few people do.

Any Steem musicians you would recommend?

None I can think of really that you haven't already mentioned. You have your finger on the pulse of that community much more than I do I think.

Linking the Steem platform with the music stars is a good idea. In my opinion Facebook is dead quite a long time ago, @steevc! Keep on rockin'!
