Mushroom Monday - More Night Mushrooms

avatar

Here is a batch of mushrooms for #mushroommonday from an old Wisconsin camping trip.

20160903_083344.jpg
This one is a Reddish Brown Bitter Bolete aka Tylopilus rubrobrunneus. They are edible but bitter so the only way to use these is to pickle them. Once pickled they kind of resemble a green olive taste.

20160828_120309.jpg
Here is the start of a Lactarius piperatus aka peppery milk cap.

20160828_120431.jpg
These are super spicy. They are technically edible but the taste is like a concentrated black pepper and cayenne pepper taste. The only use I've found for them is to powder them then use the powder as a hot spice for soups or potentially sprinkled on chicken to add spice. Tons of these grow during the summer too bad they are generally too hot to eat.

20160904_135710.jpg
Here is a strange looking polypore.

20160904_135727.jpg
Here it is from the top. I believe these are a young Picipes badius.

20160903_110500.jpg
Here is a huge cluster of mushrooms. I believe they might be a type of flammula mushroom.

20160903_110447.jpg
Here are the same mushrooms with a puffball on the left and a strange greenish mushroom on the lower right. It seemed kind of like a cup fungi in texture.

20160903_105600.jpg
Now for an unidentified orange bolete of some kind.

20160903_105611.jpg
Here is the bottom, also very orange but with a really skinny stem. Very strange for a bolete.

20160903_105856.jpg
I believe these are a type of clitocybe possibly Clitocybe compressipes.

20160903_101615.jpg
Now for a weird one. This is Spinellus fusiger a weird fuzzy mold that grows on top of mycena mushrooms. It is called bonnet mold because it is usually found on mycena mushrooms, it sometimes grows on other mushrooms as well.

20160826_192349.jpg
Now for another weird mold on top of fungi. This is called bolete eater with a latin name of Hypomyces chrysospermus. If it gets too humid and hot this mold starts infecting boletes, usually only in patches on the cap. In this case the whole mushroom is infected poor thing who knows what kind of bolete it could have grown into...

That's all for #mushroommonday thanks for looking :-)

No he's still roaming the streets out of his mind. I think he permanently ruined his brain chemistry doing daily doses. Most normal people do that once or twice in their life not every day lol.

(Edited)

some of these are very nice and very weird. the cover capture is just ... superb! such a cool angle.

ps. totally forgot to say: TNKS very much for a sudden delegation. I will mention it in the next FL review within the numbers section, if you dont mind. FL crossed the 5k voice power (mostly it is delegated, ofc). not a bad thing, huh?

and !PIZZA with !BEER, the last but not the least :=)

I finally figured out how delegation works lol. Someday I might even figure out how hive engine works.

ha?! was it that hard? hehe. next stage maybe you should explore the hive power 'lease' thing (once I tried and lended 200 Hives for a month!)

hive-engine is a simple thing, but (imo) all of the extra tokens are useless (if we speak about money). they are just candy-wrappers, as illusion, a substitute of income (good just for playing and have fun with it).

well, unless it is the !BEER or !PIZZA tokens - this is a hard currency ;)

pps. if you will find out how the things work, maybe one day you will issue a special Fungi token - isnt it too many already out there, isnt it too much?.. hehe

your engagement of this post deserves !ENGAGE 50

and also I just sent 50 NATURE tokens to your hive engine. enjoy them for free!

Yeah I'll look into the leasing of hive power. Perhaps a magic mushroom token needs to be created one day :-)

I also think about creating a fungi lovers badge... but its a lazy thinkng, tho I already started doing it and run thru the 1st steps of the procedure in the last summer :P just have to complete it, hehe. One day you will wake up wearing this badge, believe me or not!

one more !BEER. with !PIZZA, ofc.

Very beautiful mushroom photo.
but I saw a hairy second image from the very bottom.
Mushrooms are very strange.

all these mushrooms have a very attractive beauty, especially the hairy mushroom (Spinellus fusiger) looks very unique and strange and this is the first time I saw this mushroom.

There are quite a few instances of fungi attacking fungi like the bolete eater, lobster mushrooms and the Spinellus fusiger. Its a dog eat dog world out there for mushrooms.

Wow, the effect of the change in perspective on the first photo is impressive.

Yeah I arrived at the campsite in the dark and noticed the mushrooms right next to where we set up the tent. So I put my camera right next to it with the flash on and hoped for the best.

Well, the result was spectacular. And seeing them from above and to the sun, note that mushrooms are high, I love that bed of green grass where they grew up.

Most of the good boletes seem to grow out of moss around here.

Oh wow! that's a lot of mushrooms. I hardly get to see mushrooms here even in the rainy season, the heat kills them.
I love to follow the posts on this community just to see them.
I'd love to have the spicy one here. I eat super spicy food. :D

It would be really tough to eat a peppery milk cap by itself. It would be like eating a raw habanero or jalapeno. And the spice burn lasts a long time. I only use it sparingly and its enough as a seasoning.

Oh no, I was thinking of adding this to my dishes for spiciness.. Anyways that would just be wishful thinking on my part LOL

Here in the midwest these things are everywhere. So it would be easy to fix a meal with the whole mushroom, but it would be a form of torture lol. I have lots of them dehydrated for spice. I think they work best in soups and they end up tasting like cayenne with a bit of mushroom flavor.
