Vi stupireste se questo strano ibrido cinematografico fosse il frutto della mente di uno degli indimenticabili protagonisti di How I Met Your Mother? Ricordate Marshall? Il personaggio interpretato da Jason Segel? Bene. Jason Segel è il protagonista, ideatore e regista della nuova serie di punta di AMC. Dispatches From Elsewhere. Basteranno 20 secondi, i 20 secondi iniziali del pilot per essere attratti o respinti dall'intera serie. 20 secondi di totale silenzio, che serviranno ad attirare l'attenzione dello spettatore. E' il primo elemento di forte impatto di una serie strana, positivamente strana. E' il primo, non l'ultimo. Il secondo arriva subito dopo quei 20 secondi. Un breve spiegone dove il personaggio più misterioso della serie, con il suo magnetismo ci farà entrare a piccoli passi nel mood della serie stessa. Un gioco che sembra reale, una realtà che sembra un gioco.
Il pilot ci consegna la sensazione che la posta in gioco sia alta, altissima. Lo è per i protagonisti del gioco, della caccia al tesoro indetta dalla Jejeune institute ma anche per lo spettatore stesso, pubblico non pagante di un viaggio che si prepone di condurre gli ignari protagonisti verso la salvezza, verso una sorta di rivelazione. Un uomo, un'anziana signora, un uomo di colore ed un trans si ritroveranno insieme all'interno di un gruppo, di uno strano gruppo che si troverà a chiedersi se tutto quello che gli sta ruotando intorno sia un gioco, un esperimento sociale, una burla o semplicemente la realtà. Una realtà nuova, un nuovo modo di approcciare la vita che gli consentirà di aprire gli occhi, di evadere dalle vuote e abitudinarie vite che circondano i 4 protagonisti ma che in fondo pervadono tutti noi. L'altro elemento impattante è proprio questo, attraverso il voice over veniamo introdotti a Peter (Jason Segel) e ci viene detto per quali motivi anche noi potremmo essere Peter, quando è che noi dovremmo sentirci Peter. Siamo Peter, siamo tutti Peter se la nostra vita è vuota, fatta di semplici gesti reiterati giorno dopo giorno tra lavoro e abitazione, tra abitudini consolidate prive di ogni profondità. Tutti noi potremmo essere Peter. Il Peter che è dentro di noi necessita di essere svegliato dal torpore, necessita di partecipare a questo strano gioco e trovare il proprio Elsewhere. La serie tv di Jason Segel è tutto fuorchè dimenticabile. E' una serie indimenticabile, che piaccia o meno. Non passa inosservata. Non lascia indifferenti.
