Invest in Blockchain Games? .:. My Journey with dCity Begun

avatar

It's not a secret that I like blockchain games, but I was keeping my gaming "addiction" on my other account here on Hive, and you can find it on @cryptofiloz... I have tried a lot of games but trying to stick to only a few...

I like to keep my focus narrow as that gives me usually the best results, and when I focus on some game, I go deep into it, discovering strategies, tactics, and always trying to play most effectively...

Currently, my focus is on two games on Hive; Splinterlands, and Rising Star! The first one is the one that pisses me off the most, and the second one is for relaxing... :)

Oh, yes... You are probably wondering why that title if I didn't list dCity in my games that I play... Well, I don't count it as a game, but rather as an investment... It has a lot of math, brainstorming in what way to develop the city, how to get the best ROI, and how to do return your investment in a shorter period... So, it's an investing "game"...

pg divider203.png

I have started to play dCity on December 19th, 2020, without having a clue what am I doing (as probably 90% of you guys...lol...). I knew that game is out for some time, but I didn't have time to play it and dedicate time to research more about it... So, you can say that I was a bit late for the party... and if you pay attention to the SIM token chart, you can exactly locate the date when I started to play... It's the one when SIM token price started to go down... lol...

Anyways, despite the SIM price dump, I have decided to build my position in the game following that popular quote by Warren Buffett: “Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy and Greedy When Others Are Fearful”... A lot of players are dumping their tokens, lowering prices of cards, and those who are fearless are picking them up, including myself...

So in this one month of playing, I have no idea how much Hive did I spend on the game, but my city got into the Top 200, which is a great result from my point of view... Like I said at the beginning, I like to research and investigate all games until the smallest parts, and I did that with dCity (and still doing)... Luckily for me, I have found some great tutorials and strategies here on Hive, that helped me in developing my city in the "right way"...

pg divider203.png

I know that there is no bad way, but still, I think that I was prepared for things that are happening at this moment... In one moment, I had to choose between two paths, one was to build my SIM earnings, and the other path was to focus on "mining" cards... Currently, taxes are insanely high (over 37% at the moment of writing this post) and if you add negative "special events", it represents a huge cut to the city earnings... As a result of these measures, the prices of cards went down a bit, but not that much like taxes... All this means that "mining" cards are good leverage to SIM earnings...

pg divider203.png

I don't want to go deeper into things in my dCity introduction post, but I will try to do that in my next posts... I will try to create these posts at least once per week, but I will see how it goes...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

While SIM price stood steady for a long time it seems that for the moment it continued to decline. I hope it will get back, but for sure something needs to change and evolve in the game. It went too long since we've seen significant development in the game.

Agree with you! As a matter of fact, I didn't see any improvements (innovations) in the game for the time that I'm playing the game... When (if) the 3rd edition cards come out, it should shake a bit the game and maybe push back the price where it belongs...

The game is complex and it has a lot of potentials, so I have no doubt that there are ideas on how to make it better... Let's wait for the implementation...

Best time to buy cards using SIM! Being fearless is the right mindset. :)

You've been playing for a month and your city is already bigger than mine. xD
Must've been quite a bit of startup capital. I did the same in the beginning though. Just so I could buy cards daily with the income early on.

Yeah, I had the same logic as you... Try to push more, in the beginning, to make things rolling, and then compound the interest (buy cards with earnings)...

I think the investment will prove to be a sound one in the future.

Its nice... the city looks awesome...

focus on "mining" cards...

I do not understand the meaning is that a option or event in the game...
Sorry if I have asked a basic question. I am playing the Dcity game but not much just invested a little and now geting the SIM everday..

Thanks for stopping by @guurry123.leo!

Under "mining" cards, I was thinking of raising the probabilities to get technology cards, backgrounds, or workers, by building up your education, creativity and popularity... ;)

wow! I see 9 MIC, that's is pretty cool in time of war.
Welcome to Dcity.

I am playing invest-reinvest SIM mode in Dcity so not much exposed and not effected my SIM price as such.

Well, I think that these high taxes will remain until we see some innovations in the game (like 3rd edition cards), and with them wars... That's why I have invested some tokens into MICs...

Needed to laugh at the Splinterlands remark.

I play also DCity and like that it has so many challenges. It needs some daily tweaking, but it is a very nice game, or investment.

I still try to get as many cheap cards from the first edition as when the update will rollin, this will rise in price.

Needed to laugh at the Splinterlands remark.

Glad that you have a good laugh... I liked the game a lot, but lately, I really get upset when I lose, and I have the feeling that I lose a lot... lol... I was thinking about quitting the game completely because of that... I have done similar with some games in the past, so it wouldn't be the first time... lol

I hope that update will come soon and stop this price decline, but on the other side, it's nice to fill our bags when the prices are low... :)

Regarding Splinterlands, I know your pain. I mostly lose when I forget that I've started the game. I get disappointed about the rewards most of the times as cards and pack that I open rarely cross the $1 mark.

Your city is impressive and you entered at the right time. When I joined about a week later, the price of SIM was close to 0.005 again. Now that I finished my initial investment, it's down again. :D

DCity is interesting, too bad we joined so late, and you are right, it's more a gamified investment than a game.

Yeah... The price was OK at the beginning when (we) joined... It was kind of predictable to trade with the token, which I did... lol...

Luckily, I didn't do a big initial investment, but rather doing a "cost average" strategy and building every day a bit more... But, I think that I will stop doing it in the next few days...

I like your post, very well written. Is this game similar to like SimCity? I love strategy games. I am new to the Hive world but....I would like to learn more about this game. Thanks for posting!

It's kind of SimCity, but it's more an investment than a "normal game"... You can find the game here: https://dcity.io/ and read more about it...

Cheers!

I believe we started out about at the same time... as you said when SIM prices started to go south... Well your city has definitely a nicer geographical location because it grew about twice as fast as mine LOL.

I aslo see dcity rather as an investement than a game. I like the mathematical aspect of it. Honestly I believe it's always a good idea to profit from price dips. If we reinvest sim into new cards, it will allow us to climb the ladder and earn more Hive.

Mine is located on the seaside... You know how they say in real estate agencies... location, location, location... lol... :)

Oh, I have a Google spreadsheet with calculations for population number, compared with price, roi, etc... lol... :) And, I agree about buying dips, but only if there will be some additions to the game, as, like this, it will not survive by raising the taxes until 100%?

I think it's a good example of how reducing the inflation doesn't necessarily mean increasing the price of a good. If taxes get too high, people loose interest in the game and they start to sell their stuff. It's a delicate balance but it's dangerous to keep reducing the inflation all the time.
