After cannabis legalization, the wait for retail sales is the national norm - mlive.com

This has always seemed rather unfortunate and odd to me. Surely, people throughout the great state of Michigan had all sorts of cannabis that they could've distributed to the citizens there, but government has a way of taking simple things and make them convoluted.

I think legal cannabis in Michigan and Illinois are hoping just the start of legalization sweeping the midwest. Because surely when that happens, we should be pretty close to just legalizing it federally... right?

You would think! You are right though legalization on a federal level is highly complex and a klusterfuck.
