Show Me A Shadow Round 158

(Edited)

Greetings, Friends!

After having Hive withdrawals, I knew the cure was to do a Shadow Hunters Contest post!

Today I'm taking everyone back to early October 2020 when a posse of 15 family members and a couple of our furbabies vacationed in Branson for an extended weekend. It was a much needed and overdue break for us since Covid-19 forced us to cancel the trip we planned to take back in March.

Please turn up the volume and click on the song I selected from Chris Stapleton to listen to while you visit

This is the same image, except in color. Black and white brings out the crisp shadows better, in my opinion, but seeing everything in color is what are our eyes are accustomed to.

Doesn't this look like an inviting spot to chill?

Here is another photo that I edited to black and white showing a slightly different angle of the relaxing area underneath the deck that overlooked the nearby lodging and lake.

And lastly, I'll once again follow with the same image, in color.

The second photo is my entry for the Show Me A Shadow - Round 158 #ShadowHunters #ShadowContest created by the lovely @melinda010100 and hosted by the talented @annephilbrick. Learn more about how to join the fun and be sure you add the link to your entry to the main post 👉 here

Great to see you back with a beautiful shadowy post. I agree that shadows often stand out more and look crisper in black and white photos. I wonder how Branson and other tourist towns like it are surviving. I've seen where a couple long time attractions in WI Dells have closed permanently.

It's a crying shame the Wisconsin Dells closed some of its tourist attractions permanently. That was one of my father's favorite places to travel during the summertime. He enjoyed the scenery, fresh air, crisp evenings & not having a need to run the air conditioning 24/7. A welcome change since Saint Louis summers can become ridiculously hot, humid and sticky.

There were plenty of places open and much to do in Branson. A couple of our kids went to Smith Creek Distillery where they sampled and purchased some delicious moonshine (the salted caramel was my favorite); others went to Table Rock Dam, Bass Pro Shop, the famous Tanger Outlet Mall and some quaint souvenir shops. Two had readings done by a spiritual psychic advisor! @melinda010100

To be honest, I had no desire to do anything other than visit with my daughter, granddaughter and family members while taking in the scenic Autumn views without needing to wear a face mask.🍂🔥🍁

I lived for 10 years just 15 miles north of the Dells. It's where my kids grew up and most of their classmates had summer jobs in the Dells. My oldest son worked in a campground. I read recently that Tommy Bartlett's water ski show closed after 70 years. We had free or heavily discounted admissions to many of the attractions and usually waited until September when the tourists had gone home to use them. Lots of good memories!

I first went to Branson in the early 70s after reading Harold Bell Wright's book Shepherd of the Hills. It was just a sleepy little Missouri town back then. I visited several times over the years and had fun, but I always missed the quiet little town that it used to be.
